Who burns year-round?

Lit off my new VF3000 on June 1, it is in series with my oil burner with a 007 running constantly between that two boilers and the indirect hot water heater(thermostat problem).
My chimney is about 30 feet and is in the center of the house. No problems with draft, no outfires due to lack of draft on the 100 degrees days in July. The outfires I did have were due to brownouts, need a generator.
Aqustat settings - 130
Best timer settings - 2min on| 13min off| 3 1/2 turns out
2 adults, 1 teenager, guests almost every weekend, laundry every day, dishwasher a few times a week, at least 3 showers a day.
Burned approximately 2500 pounds of rice so far.

New Convert - July 15th.
AHS S260 - 20-25#/Day
Aquastat - 145
Runnin in Series with Propane.

Fire stayed on for 3 days during Gloria outage.

As for the pool, it will make great use of the S260 in the summer months. Here is a video of my EFM heating the pool in May.

Those are some nice units Rob. Careful with those bare feet!

I don't think those are Rob's feet in the first video, but he probably was barefoot in the second video because he needed to test the effectiveness of the pool heater.

Rob, as the original poster in this thread, do you think it's appropriate to advise people that if they plan to burn year-round, it would be best to make sure they have enough coal so that they don't run out?

The first video is from ValterBorges, I always wear shoes in the boiler room. Even a non-burning piece of coal doesn't feel very good under your heel.

Yes, sometimes it is easy to forget the obvious. I had every intention of running through the entire summer, but I used more coal than expected and when I went to get more...every local retailer was sold out. I ended up shutting down for 8 weeks, and I'm back online now. Hopefully the next truckload of coal is here in a week or two.

How do things look in your bin? Burning the sweepings yet?

The "bin room" has been empty for a long time, and the feed bin was very close to the bottom when I figured it probably was time to do something. I found that nobody around here stocks buck, but that there's a place in NY about an hour and a half away that stocks pallets of buck in bags. I grabbed one, and hope to get a TL in here before the bags run out.

Yes, I was making sure the floor was nice and warm. I was thinking of doing some kind of heat in the basement but with this beast it radiant heats the entire basement floor, even my kitchen floor warms up.

Yeah, finding pea in the summer months is a bit of a challenge as I found this year. Stocking up now, just got my 4.8 ton delivery today from Jason @

What i've learned about burning in the summer.

1. Make sure you have a dump zone, a backup is even better.
2. Turn it down all the way on the S260 especially now that I'm only doing DHW maybe next year with the pool it will be different.
3. Set the ash control to 120 and leave the hist. at 10.
3. Lot's of extra clinkers, fyi don't put them in the hopper it will bridge and cause an out.
4. You're basement will be extra hot, water pipes from a well will condensate on the positive side everything is extra dry.
5. Make sure you keep an eye on your damper and get a manometer.
6. Turning on your whole house fan will cause negative pressure and all your CO / GAS alarms to go off.
7. Get CO/Gas alarms.
8. Stock up on coal it's harder to find.

ValterB, does Jason charge for delivery or is it included in that price he had listed?

Yes, 80$, I believe he'll go 100 miles, and it's based on area/radius distance.
