noob vent question. Need to replace my outside vent pipe.

It's time to fire up the coal stove, now i need to replace the vent pipe. It's been slowly rusting away, and over the summer the cap fell off. The top 6" of pipe is pretty rusty. Anyway - I climbed up there yesterday and realized I have no idea how that pipe is attached...? Is it cemented on to the roof flange? I've seen roof flanges and piping at home depot - seems like a simple job if you know how to connect them. I thought maybe it spun and locked on but it doesn't.

Thanks for the help!

Hi, I think we need some more information, You describe this as a vent pipe. Is this a vertical chimney pipe coming out of the roof?

Of is it a horizontal vent pipe coming off of a powered vent system??

A little more info or a photo or two will help us help you!

I think it is a vertical chimney, is it an insulated pipe, or a tripple wall pipe with 1" air gaps.

Either one of these are usualy 'twist and lock' type connections. Often they get REALLY stuck. I've had to get a friend to hold one section of pipe in a 'bear-hug' and I did the same on the other and we 'waltzed' around with the pieces 'till they decided to come apart.

If you are up on the roof, BE CAREFUL !! Windy conditions, and few options if you slip often result in injuries. Get some help if you can.
