Still burning!

Still burning!

PostBy: Paulie On: Sun May 15, 2011 8:42 am

Mid May here in the Bay state and I'm still burning coal! Keeping the house warm and dry-coal trol is doing a fine job of not
overheating the place. Cold and wet outside, warm and dry inside- touching the stove every two days at the spring rate of
burn.

I just started stripping out my old oil boiler system yesterday, so there will be no heat in our house for awhile. Now the weather report is saying that for the next week its going to be down right cold in these here parts, with 48 degrees being the high on Monday and Tuesday no less. Guess some extra blankets will have to be the answer. Either that or I'll need to break out a couple of the electric unit heaters.

I shut down the EFM last week. I'm in Florida right now on Vaca. :D

Well actually I'm flying home in about an hour. Wife said to leave the packing to her. :blah:

Anyway looks like I'll have to start a fire when I get home. Cold back home

We have shut down two of the Jotul 507s but still have another heating the old house.
The stove temp is 400*F burning about 25 lbs. of Pea a day.
The forecast for the week is 40*--- 50* cool and damp with rain showers for the next six days. :(
One 507 keeps the 3,000 sq/ft house dry and warm in this weather.

Thanks to you BIGFOOT and many others we are able to keep our homes warmwith USA Coal, while you all keep us safe. The Keystoker 90 is still burning, probably another week with the damp weather we are having.

Spring has sprung, 3 days short of previous prediction, and summer will be next week. Shutdown the Keystoker last nite, had a brick in the hopper to keep the coal ramped up to the feeder, you cannot let good coal unused before summer shutdown :!:

Still burning here. Almost lost it yesterday but I opened the air and went from nothing to nuclear in no time. :D

I had to get in there with the MAPP torch to liven things up but it's still going.

I'm amazed at how low the pea coal will idle. 64* is nice and easy.

This dampness will last for some time, and those who burn year-round already know how nice a dry home gets when others are damp and clammy. Has anyone switched over to "ARK Building" as a new career?....obviously heated with Coal appliances......
Things sure are green, but agriculture has no fleet of Hovercraft around here, so it is a 'no-go' in the fields.
40's nightly here, low 60's daytime and damp. Perfect time for heating systems that require little oversight, and provide a uniform temperature over a long burn cycle...or an infinite time as with stoker appliances. Spring? A tiny glimpse has been very nice, but it sure looks like one of those years that goes from winter to summer.....man, we are 3/4 through May already, and a record number of folks are still burning! :) :?

The last bag of nut coal went in the kodiak on sunday morn. There is no more to be had locally. The 2 pallets of rice they have have been out in the deluge for 40 days and 40 nights and are older than moses.....

I think the time has come.....gotta get rid of that cheap kerosene from last year anyway.... 8-)
