Yup, you can always use a bigger barn! Is the plan to move the coal to the barn or does the barn get moved to the coal pile? ;) How's it feel to have have such a stash of BTUs? Really warm and fuzzy? One more question: About how much wet ricebuck was sticking to the inside of the TT?

That little outbuilding gets de-constructed. Believe it or not, the timbers are still good. It needs a new slab poured, then I'll rebuild it with Pressure-treated timbers where they need to be, and a new tin roof.THEN the coal gets moved into it.
I estimate about 600lbs was stuck to the insides of the truck. Its a "V" bottom, so the sides were at a 45 degree angle. We both got in and swept it. He turned on the conveyor again to empty what we swept. It went quickly.

DVC500 at last

What size load did you get? About 25 ton? I've gotten 6-8 ton bulk loads of RICE up to now but I really like the extra savings available with the TT loads. Neighbor of mine got a TT load of Buck last summer for $153 a ton delivered into the central NY state region. Not sure how actual cost and mileage broke down in that figure. Best price I've gotten so far was $215 a ton picked up at local coal distributor and that was a discounted price. Your gonna love winter now!

24 ton was all that truck could legally haul.

Yowza! The super load! *smile* Did the entire truck load weigh under 80,000 pounds? Or was he allowed to go heavier? If it were 80,000 I'm surprised he could haul an entire 24 ton. Either way, you're set buddy! YeeeeHawww!

There's another trailer load "look" that no one has mentioned; perhaps for good reason.

I am a retired sandblasting contractor and only bought blasting sand via pressure bulk trailers. These trailers are frequently seen hauling dry Portland Cement. My loads were around 24-25 tons but the trucks were permitted for 99 thousand and presumably could have hauled more. It took about 45 minutes for the truck to blow the sand into my 30' tall silos. The trucks were using about 20 ft of hose but carried more like 80 ft.

Maybe the coal is too wet for this to work. Or maybe the grading screens at most breakers are so poorly maintained that there is little product conformity. The biggest problem for most is the silo. I have a nice one if any one is interested. Let me know and I'll get some pictures and measurements. Might be good for 30-40 tons of coal. It has a conical bottom and is 10' diameter. I hauled it around to a number of job sites. Used to raise it with a cable tied to my 10 wheeler pintal hitch and the top head of silo.

It is conceivable that one would never have to handle coal with the silo outlet feeding a stoker or top loading coal stove. Why not check with a few breakers to see if they fill this kind of trailer?

Yes, 24 ton, brought him in at under 80k.

I agree with the 23.5 to 24 ton legal load. The truckers don't want the aggravation of a 10K fine for a couple of extra tons.
Chris, you'll be stylin' for some time, unless you educated a few citizens and they share in the benefits of anthracite.
36 here this AM, crazy weather. If you have a few folks down there that need a job, we could sure use some help feeding the mosquitoes. If their wingspan exceeds 24", there is a .50 bounty each. If you miss them with the first swipe, you can help the red cross by using them to make a donation with the quart they suck out of you every day!!! Bumper crop this season, come-on up.....free feeding spots assigned.

Good deal Chris!! That'll last you quite a few years. How is the house heated right now? If it's propane, you'll be way ahead of the game once the EFM is installed. Congrat's!

I'd hold up a fresh Pepsi & stop any TT as it came buy. Ask HIM if he could back into your place.

The "live bed" trucks can not haul as much weight. I found one that would have delivered to me, but he could only bring 19 ton as his rig was so heavy.

Convoy bed trailers can haul 24 tons legal 25 tons if the tractor is a light one or trailer is aluminum & not steel
80 k GVW is the limit on all highways in the US.

That tractor & trailer with driver weighed 32.680 lbs empty with 24 tons of coal weight is 48.180 + 32.680 = 80.860 lbs
he unloaded about 1500 lbs before he left to much coal not enough cash to cover the extra .
That was there light trailer they have heaver ones total weight 35.780 empty with the heavy trailer

Also the coal was dry not wet when it left the breaker.
The cover on trailer is a black mesh it is not water proof so when he hits rain the load gets wet.
3 loader buckets of Buckwheat & 3 loader buckets of Rice made the load .
The trailer can fit 55 tons but it is not legal to haul that much :(

That explains it pretty well. Regulate, regulate, regulate. DVC500 was talking about the lighter tractor stopping a rolling load that could take advantage of the rig's volume. He said there wasn't too much hanging on the sides of the V and it brushed right down. All in all, a mighty nice pile of BTUs. I know he's thankful for the help he received from forum members. Great bunch hanging out in these parts :)
