Unless you're gamer this may not seem like news but this game has been anticipated since the release of the first one....... in 1996. The original Duke Nukem was huge hit and one of the original first person shooters right along with the likes of Doom, Quake and others.Word of warning, this is not a game for the kiddies.http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2386738,00.asp
Fresh off 15 years of recovering from his last lust-filled, muscle-popping adventure, Duke Nukem is finally back to chomp on cigars, chow down on cheesecake, and challenge ugly aliens to go ahead and make his day.
Duke Nukem Forever hits U.K. shelves Friday at midnight local time and will arrive in the U.S. on June 14. You better believe it's got an M rating. The title is also being released Friday in all non-U.S. territories.
"June 10 in the UK will forever be celebrated as the day that the legendary Duke Nukem Forever went from video game folklore to Earth shattering reality," Christoph Hartmann, president of publisher Take-Two Interactive subsidiary 2K Games, said in a speech not a little reminiscent of the Duke's own massive self-regard.

I like the lat line where the kid asks if the game is good "Should be after 12 *censored* years"
You never played Duke Smitty? It's filled with one liners like that.

I still have the original Playstation. It's right next to my VCR & High Fidelity cassette player. I'm sooooo far behind with technology!

Looks like the original PS came out in 1994, Duke Nukem was released in 1996 so it wasn't too far ahead.SMITTY wrote: I still have the original Playstation.

I've heard that name before but I just never played it, or knew anyone that owned it.
I still have Final Doom. That was one of my favorites. I'd play that for hours just trying to see what the next level looked like. I haven't played it in years.

14 years in the making to be exact. I was just graduating high-school when it was announced back in 1996 for a release date of 1998. I still have an old ad from it somewhere.
Duke Nukem 3d was actually not the first game in the series. It was the third. Duke 1 (1991) & 2 (1993) were side-scrolling platform games. Every other DN game after 3D does not count IMO since they were released before Forever; when 3d Realms should have been concentrating on Forever. The release of all the other games were a slap in the face to the fans. I took it as a, "Look, we're churning out garbage when we should be working on a true sequel."
Honestly. I love Duke. Unfortunately for him after waiting 14 years for his return I've lost interest and will wait till the game hits the bargain bin before purchasing. In the meantime I've got The Elder Scrolls 4: Skyrim (11.11.11), Fallout: New Vegas, L.A. Noire to keep me pre-occupied.

The first Playstation Duke Nukem Game was "Total Meltdown" released in 1997 followed by "Time to Kill" in 1998 then in 1999 with "Zero Hour".Richard S. wrote:Looks like the original PS came out in 1994, Duke Nukem was released in 1996 so it wasn't too far ahead.SMITTY wrote: I still have the original Playstation.
The "first person shooter" Titled 3d came out on PC in 1996.

I was wondering how that was going to effect sales, their main target audience wasn't even born when it was first released. I was college age when it first came out so running down to the store to buy new one isn't exactly on my list of priorities. I'm in the same boat you are, if I get bored I might download the demo. I'd probably only buy it if I saw it on sale. Last game I came anywhere near paying the fuel price for was DOOM3I'm On Fire wrote:y. I love Duke. I have no issue paying full price for games. They however have to be worth it. Any game developed by Bethesda/Zenimax or Obsidian (Fallout or Elder Scrolls) is a given and select games by Rock Star.Richard S. wrote:I was wondering how that was going to effect sales, their main target audience wasn't even born when it was first released. But I lost faith in 3d Realms/Apogee when they dropped the ball on Duke.

Well, I'm going to have to rescind this statement.I'm On Fire wrote:

Especially since Interceptor Entertainment just bought 3DRealms/Apogee and did a remake of Rise of the Triad that is fantastic and true to the original game. There is also rumor that they are either redoing Duke Nukem 3D or making a new Duke Nukem game. I still won't touch Duke Nukem Forever but if Interceptor has a hand in the next Duke game I'm definitely in.

Duke was the only PC based game I owned. Im more of a console gamer vs pc. It was a kick ass game but I just never got off the ground on PC gaming.

Grew up with PC games. Started back in the day on a good old Commodore 64 with Wasteland and Q-Bert. Eventually stepped up to an Apple IIe back when Apple was not making craptastic iPods and iPhones. Played me many years of Zork. Hell I didn't get my first console until 1995 and it was a second hand NES. That was the first and last console I had until 2008 when I got an Xbox. The Xbox sits on my desk, collecting dust. Last time it got turned on was when GTA 5 came out. Played it for about a month and then wandered back to PC. I've got more games for my PC than my Xbox or my son's two Xboxs'.anthony7812 wrote:Duke was the only PC based game I owned. Im more of a console gamer vs pc. I went and bought it yesterday. $15.00 for amazon download.
If you like old school first person shooters this game is for you. The only complaint I have so far is I can't bind both a mouse button and a keyboard key to the same action. I've always used the right mouse button for forward going back to..... well the original Duke, Doom and Quakes series. W was also bound to forward for games like Battlefield.
It wouldn't be that much trouble except in this game Duke gets shrunk and you can jump in an RC car and I find myself instinctively pushing W to go forward.
