Two candidates come to mind for me:

Who's Next, by the Who

Sargent Pepper, by the Beatles

While they are nowhere near my favorite band and for sure not my favorite AC/DC album (I'm more a Bon Scott fan than a Brian Johnson fan) I am answering the question as it was asked...

The album has sold an estimated 49 million copies worldwide to date, making it the second highest selling album of all time, and the best selling hard rock or heavy metal album, as well as the best selling album ever released by a band.[2][3][4][5] On 13 December 2007, the RIAA certified it 22× Multi Platinum, recognising sales of 22 million in the United States.[6] (Wikipedia)

Murdoc
I concur.........

I'd have to put Boston's first album right up near the top. As far as popularity goes.
I don't know too many people who didn't have it in they're collection.

I would have to say The Who's Tommy is up there too, it saved The Oo's career.
The Beach Boys Pet Sounds
Moody Blues Days of Future Passed

AC/DC-Highway to Hell, 1979. Last album with Bon Scott, they reached their peak with this one.

Flamingo Serenade , I know most of you are too young for this one but quite a few times those songs got me to where I was trying to go. Something to be said for a slow romantic song while with the right woman.

There are so many good ones it's tough to think of a best of all time. I do love the
Beatles Rubber Soul and
Revolver or
The Stones Exile on Maine Street come to mind. Yeah, I'm pretty old. Honestly there is some much great music out there. When I was in me teens and twenty's I played in bands and I sure miss that. It was the time of my life! LOL.

Supertramp - Crime of the Century

But so many to choose from. Toto, Foreigner IV, Little River Band, Kansas. Of course, these are from the more obscure picks. Then there are combinations like.

Kentucky Bourbon beer with mind altering drugs with Emerson Lake and Palmer - Brain Salad Surgery or even better Tarkus. The brain never recovers but you don't care.
