When people actually took pride in their work ... and government stayed the hell out of the auto business. Is it any wonder you still see alot of these cars still driving around 60 years later? QUALITY is the keyword here.

Anyone wanna place bets on which cars on the road today will still be running in 60 years? Christ, can't even make it to 50K with the front end components used today ....

Funny you should mention 97..... I have a 97 Ford Van. The first brand new vehicle I ever bought. Here it is 2011 and believe it or not, it still has the original battery!!! Fourteen years? Yup. I just last week turned over 100,000 miles.

Cool videos! I never knew anyone made a hard top convertible. I loved the Lucy commercial!

I know right? How mint was that??? Had that kind of ingenuity over 50 years ago, & today they can't even build one that won't rot away in 5 years ... or need ball joints at 40K ...

Then the check engine lights .... BAH! I'm so disgusted with the cars of today!

Smitty. You have it all wrong.Don't you know it is all about the fuel economy so we can all use less fossil fuel and keep the planet green? That is the reason they can build them so light and lean and have an old guy like me swallow their line. They consider ball joints etc as " minor consumables" on the way to lighter and more nimble vehicles.Weight costs money to move, geesh Smitty I thought you knew all this stuff. Mike
