Coal near Williamsport

New to the board, and this may have been asked in the past, but does anyone have input on the best coal to get from a breaker near Williamsport? I'd like to cut out the middle man and have something to do for an afternoon - like any of us really need more to do!

I was referred to Harmony Mine outside of Mt. Carmel, but that's quite a ride for me coming out of Williamsport. I've also heard about a breaker in Shamokin...but haven't heard anything about the quality from there.

I have the ability to get 2-3 ton at a time between a pickup and a trailer.
Any input/help would be greatly appreciated.

Harmony's coal may be worth the trip, and they were cheaper than others. There is a mine across the street that goes to blaushak, and some or the employees cross the road from their employer to buy their coal (so I was told) How many miles is it for you ? My drive is 43 miles one way.

Calvin V. Lenig would probably be the closest for you.

It's about a 60 mile trip one way for me...which I guess isn't too bad after thinking about it.

Are you saying people from the other mine cross the street to get their coal from Harmony mine? or the other way around?

YES (so I have been told), they buy at harmony, and I was told the man that does coal quality /ash testing buys their also

The reason the coal across the street goes to blaschak breaker is because it is one blaschak own surface mines
as well as that is raw mine run coal not processed coal.
Unless you know the employees personally I would not count on that statement / rumor
The employer would not be to happy about their employees buying process coal from another coal Co.
as for coal Quality & ash testing that is all done at the main breaker in Mahanoy city not a surface mine / stripping pit

well if he was going to go there he his better off going the extra 10 or 12 miles to Harmony it is much better coal then what is at Calvin V Lenig Now

If you are thinking about going to Harmony you better get there before the price incress takes effect on 8-1-11
150 now a ton on 8-1-11 it is going up 10 or 20 a ton

SAY IT'S NOT SO I asked about a price increase in June and they did not know of any, guess it was bound to happen, still worth the trip.

Well the reason they did not know of any price increase is Wendy & Cindy in the office was only told about it last Thursday July 7th.
I was told about on April 8th By Jeff one of the owners

Thanks to everyone for the input - I'll make an effort to get to Harmony prior to the 1st....but that's going to be a stretch as I have to put a bin the basement yet!

Well the bin is built and I'll be riding to Harmony sometime this week to be beat the price increase. - not really looking forward to operating a shovel in this heat , but I'll deal with it!

I made the trip to Harmony UAE on Tuesday. Wasn't too bad of a deal. In and out in a matter of 10 minutes, put 2.2 ton on the truck(F150 with a small trailer) gave it a little workout on the hills coming out of Mt Carmel! Coal looks good - clean without debris and washed pretty decent. It beats what I purchased last year, and if looks are any indicator it's going to be easy burning. The loader operator was more than helpful and I'll be back for at least another 2 ton before winter hits.

I figure I saved $130 when comparing the local prices picked up at the yard and factoring in the additional fuel costs. - Not too shabby!
