I think the moral of the story is: pump the tank regularly, it's a lot cheaper than a new leach field (and get the hell out of Massachusetts as soon as possible !)

I had to install a whole new system about 3 years ago and it cost 19000. this included removing the old system,removing about 3 ft of surface soil bringing in 85 yds of new septic soil 2 1500 gallon tanks (1 composting tank and 1 cleanwater discharge tank). a bioclere trickling filter and all sorts of pumps. this system came with a lifetime warrenty provided we have it pumped regularly. ( every other year)

Wow. I don't feel so bad now. I don't have a lifetime warranty though! I just thought I'd move next time!
