I thought I'd see if anyone else in Virginia is still on the forum. Stop by and say hello if you get a minute. If anyone hears anything about a new coal source or stove dealer in the state, please let the rest of us know by posting on this page. We'd love to hear from you. Lisa
New to the forum of course..
I picked up an old Loth 211 coal stove. I'm thinking it will be perfect for my "man-cave"..
My first shock was the lack of a local supply of coal when I did my first search.
I mean I live in the heartland of the Virginia coal industry! The first mine in the US was just down the road from me in Midlothian, Va.
Since I've never burned coal, I'll be digging thru the forum... type to acquire, best method to ignite it, etc.
How I never found this site before, I will never know. Bill

If you are up for "Basement Mining" you may want to put an ad on Craig's list for coal wanted. You'd be surprised how many older homes have tons of coal in their basements from days gone by. It's usually free if you move it. Just an idea. About the stove black - check with your local ACE hardware. They should have it and if they don't it's probably in the catalog and can be delivery store to store at no cost to you.
If you have any questions about your set up or burning coal, don't hesitate to ask. I assure you someone will have the answer. Again, welcome aboard! Lisa

Hey y'all ! I didn't realize there was a Virginia forum. You can get all the stove restoration products you need from the Victorian fireplace shop off broad st. In Richmond. Since you are coming from midlothian I would suggest getting your bagged anthracite from woodstoves unlimited as Lisa provided on her information list. It is a great place to deal with. I am right down the road in Varina .

I'm still here and still in VA. In Winchester. I split a load of bulk rice with my neighbor and 1 other guy from Sherman. Cost was 210/ ton delivered. If we get our next load before his VA dot tags run out it will be 200/ ton. we got 16 tons and it burns great.
I just finished up my install last weekend, so it is all new to me.

I just went back to culpeper and bought a pallet of but coal (2400lbs)
It is defiantly cheaper to buy multiple tons. I paid 385$ for the bagged blaschak anthracite for 2400lbs
Slight price break from the $6.75/bag but defiantly not 210/ton!

well it seems I couldn't edit the last post. My stupid phone wrote "but" instead of "nut" coal. The modern wonders of technology ...Smokeyja wrote:I just went back to culpeper and bought a pallet of Nut coal (2400lbs)
