AnthraKing UL Testing

I know some of you are wondering about when our new furnaces will be UL listed, so here is a little progress report. I'm currently at Intertek in Wisconsin and the testing should be completed by Thursday. I'll post a few pics and progress each day.

Update:
Completed max static pressure, abnormal power (85% and 110% of normal voltage), loss of power, high limit test, blocked inlet, and blocked outlet. All tests completed successfully and clearance testing will start first thing in the morning with some trial run data taken this afternoon.

So far the furnace is a winner with no big issues, had to bend the door handle slightly to get it away from the radiant heat at the front of the unit, other than that we should be in great shape.

Update: second day of testing and all is well, doing clearance testing and dialectric test today. Looks like clearances will be zero on wall adjacent to cold air return and 4" next to flue pipe. We have determined that the unit will fit into a small equipment room, however the radiant heat coming off the doors and front makes it better suited to being located in an open basement area.

Testing should conclude today if all continues to go well, will post final results and specs when we get the test report.

Only 4" clearance on the flu pipe. That is in line with my own observations when I pushed my 110K stove hard one day this spring. Flu temperatures are low and that to me that means incredible efficiency. The paint over the front door shows the slight fading effect of 750F - great for an external DHW coil - I just might have to play around there. Congratulations on the design and on passing the UL test. Another winner in the LL stable. Can't wait to use this one in anger - going to be fun. So tell me what exactly is the output? As far as the 110K rated stove, if it's under 120K BTU I will eat my underwear (and that is a BIG bet after a day on the horse farm).

Update: Testing phase completed, min ceiling clearance 2" to plenum, min wall clearance adjacent to stove pipe 18" (passed the standard temps at 4" however the minimum per UL 391 is 18"), 24" clearance from front of unit where ash and fire door are located, and zero clearance to wall next to cold air return box. Of course standard clearances will be listed in the manual: 18" above furnace, 48" from the front, 18" from the flue, 18" from the rear , and 18" from both sides. These clearances are to combustible materials and are trumped by local codes that may be more stringent. Did not do max btu input but seems to be in the 230 to 250 range with around 88% efficiency, will do some more testing at the shop to get some better numbers

All tests have resulted in passing data, now we will perform the analysis portion and verify drawings, material and component selection per the standard.

UL listed units with the appropriate stickers and operations manual will be available within the next month or so as soon as we round up all the data and get approval of the manual and warning stickers.
