Called 2 suppliers .. 1st) Reading coal (which I burned 3 tonnes and was very very happy with sans debris) ... 310 ton, up about 40 dollars/t from last year
2nd) Blashak .. $270/ton .. no change in price from last year
I went with the Balshak .. hopefully their nut size is slightly larger than the ones from last year .. did not burn as hot as previous years

Dettinger Coal Yard Rt 51 Beaver Falls PA 724-843-3773. Call to verify he will be there. About 1 mile off Rt 60.
In 2010 his Rice was more like Barley.
This year is definitely more like Rice.
He started out w/ 23.5 ton T.T. load of Rice, but it's going fast and it's not even Halloween yet.
He has always sold Soft Coal also...bagged and bulk.

$304 per ton, bagged Reading at Klem's in Spencer, MA.
I have only burned Kimmel's or Blaschak in the past few years, hopefully the Reading will not disappoint. I must admit that I am not a fan of the plastic bags that Reading and Blaschak use. If it gets bagged wet, it stays wet. The woven bags that Kimmel has been using allows water/moisture to escape and results in nice dry coal so long as it is stored in a dry location.

Paying 38 dollars less than three year ago
CT Pellet Just Raised bagged blaschak to $310/ton + delivery, they were just at $285, and last June I was able to negotiate an entire truck load (20 skids) for $260/ton delivered. http://www.ctpellet.com/products_pricing.asp
I am going to build a bin and go bulk before my current supply is exhausted, but I have to say lately the rate of the rise in prices is a bit alarming. Rising prices and the recent power outage have me thinking about adding a wood stove to my basement in case things start to get outta hand. It would be interesting to take the pricing data on this board and do a curve fit, distance from NEPA on the X-axis, Price on the Y, and if your real slick add a Z-axis for quantity purchased to show the volume discount relationship.

$205/ton/pea/5 ton delivered 50 miles from Drums PA. Lots of wood, but I burned a few ton of this over the summer for domestic hot water. No where near the ash content that I had last year coming out of Hudson breaker. We shall see.

I don't know if you remember all the people complaining about a lot of ash from the coal last year. It might have been the strip mining coal coming out of Superior since they don't deep mine anymore? It was a white powderly ash, the whole tub didn't weigh much. I had no complaints on the burning quality it just seemed like way more ash than usual.

I just picked up 2 ton of this Centralia Rice coal at the Fall River, MA location. (It is the same ownership, but is called Eastern Ice, Co., if you call the 800 no. on the receipt, it connects you to the Brockton store. Very nice people to deal with.Coal Cooker wrote:Centralia Rice coal is $7.00 per 50 lb bag picked up at Brockton Ice & Coal

Note: Fall River stores the bags in their freezers. Our 1st (frozen) ton came from there, and left a lot of water in the basement. My husband called the 800 no. a week later, expecting the FR office. He wanted them to take a pallet out of the freezer to thaw. It was the Brockton office that answered. After explaining why he was calling, Brockton said they don't store theirs in the freezers, and they would send down a pallet to the FR store that we could p/u the following morning.
Very good service.
