But I'm getting really excited that it's gonna get cold again. I cleaned my DS again this weekend preparing it for the cooler weather. I know we still have two months but still. I can hardly contain myself. I've got the seasons coal already and I'm getting ready to install my draft inducer and I just can't wait. I've changed all the batteries in my smokes and CO detectors too.

Who is with me? :D

I'm looking forward to cooler nights, but not the snow/ice/wind.

Me neither. I hate snow and ice. The wind is tolerable. Especially since I have trees in my yard that break it up. But I'm definitely looking forward to the heaty goodness of coal.

Here in Québec, they say that it will get very cold, with snow, wind........but didn't say WHEN. The time is too long, sometime.
I second you IOF

Beautiful land there Short Bus. 8-) I don't think there's a place on earth more scenic. Just wish it was warmer there!

Yeah ... I'm all set with winter. Hate the cold, hate the snow, hate the salt, hate driving anywhere when the roads are all screwed up, hate the potholes .... winter just sucks. Costs me way too much money. Not just in heat, but in automotive repairs too. It just kills the cars & trucks.

I can't say I even enjoy burning coal, to be honest. I wish I could just push a lever & have the room get warm without ever setting foot in my basement. Those days are gone for the middle class. Oil has become a luxury. I burn coal because I don't have a choice. Life is getting tougher in America. We're now going backward.

All I can say is I'm glad I cashed out my 401k after watching the news today!

Sorry to rain on your parade, IOF ....

The snow is rapidly disapearing, it was just a freak storm, we will be back in the sixties soon.

No worries, I'm not having the best time either. Its funny you mention cashing out your 401k.

The 60's!? That's spring weather. Does Alaska even break 70? I've always wanted to visit Alaska. But the way things are going in this country its likely I'll never be able to.

Like Smitty, said. We're definitely moving in the wrong direction in this country.

Record highs for three summer months in Cantwell are in the eighties.
Fairbanks can get into the hundreds in the summer.
When it gets hot in interior Alaska it is without humidity, probably like the south west.

I'm laughing I'm on fire! As much as I'm looking forward to this heating season to burn my two (newly restored and coverted)coal stoves, I'm quite happy to wait and enjoy the summer some. My garden is finally taking off and after a hot day busting butt, nothing beats going down to the river and taking a swim! Wow that feels excellent. Cold but bracing. I can swim against the current and hover going nowhere. Yep I'll wait for it because I know it's coming. As for now, I'm about to recharge the airconditioning in my Accord. It was cool but not cold so a can of R-134 should freshen it right up. After that it's back to scraping for painting on the house. (hmm, maybe winters not so bad).

Oh don't post photos of AK  Just kidding, I'm just jealous of anyone who lives there. I wish I would have moved up there right out of high school but I didn't and now I'm at a point in life where I cannot make a move like that for a whole bunch of reasons.
AK is amazing and truly is "the last frontier" in the USA.

It's a retirement plan but sometimes it does feel like it's a gun pointed at your head.....especially in the past few days because the stock market is down. :)

Rockwood, thanks for the answer. I like the way you said it (funny) but I know that the economic situation is no at it's best.
