Need good coal delivered to Hop Bottom, PA.

PostBy: jaimz23 On: Fri Aug 19, 2011 4:13 pm

Hello All,

Like the title says, I need solid some good coal delivered to Hop Bottom, PA. I have looked in this forum a bit, but haven't gotten solid information on it yet. I called Outside Matters, because I got good coal from them last year at the end of last season when I picked it up from their Montrose, PA site (they said it was Blaschak). It burned better than the stuff I had delivered last year. However, the coal I got delivered last year, (from Fred Lance by the way) was $175 a ton delivered. The Outside Matters coal was around $215 a ton when you picked it up yourself last year. I called and this year it is $238 a ton delivered. I know coal prices change every year but WOW, a bit of a shock. $63 more per ton delivered is quite a jump. Is this just the price this year?? Any opinions on Outside Matters and their coal/prices?

I am looking to get 5 tons delivered definitely. If the coal is good enough price and hailed by enough members, I may get 6 tons. Any info and phone numbers of other places I could call for delivery would be appreciated. Maybe from people that have taken delivery already this season and are happy with it. The only other place I even know is Agel, but I haven't called them and I don't know if they deliver. Thanks

I believe Agel gets it from the same breaker Lance did. Comes from the Hudson Breaker. I have been getting my own from a dealer down in Plymouth. Chervy coal. They may be in the phone book. Cant find the card with his number on it.

Jaimz23,
Check out " good coal, better coal" topic in this section of the form. I have posted some pictures of my delivery and had no trouble with Chervy coal, and I've been using his coal for several years. Very good coal he gets from Hazleton.

How is the coal from Chervy? Quality, ash, burn times, price per ton delivered, etc. I called them and the girl said she would have to ask her father to see if they deliver that far and what the price for 5 tons would be. I am interested though. I burned mostly from Lance last year. (4 tons) and I burned about 3000 lbs of Outside Matters at the end of last year when the Lance Coal was gone. (First year burning coal so I didn't know how much I would need) It was obvious how much better the Outside Matters was. It had longer burn times, less ash, and was hotter, but the price was a lot more. I am just trying to find the middle ground. Ya know? I haven't found that a lot of people are using Chervy, this is why I ask. If they are so good, why aren't more people raving about them? Thanks.

Chervys coal quality is excellent, ash- low ash, and burns to a fine white powder. burn time- in very cold weather, I'll shake the stove roughly every 12 hours, on the warmer days ( 50 to near 60 degrees), I can have very little air draft and during shaking after 24 hours of burn time, the fire is very strong like the middle of winter. Delivery- $183 a ton for nut ( this price could have changed from last month). Why he is not mentioned more on the form? good question ;)

Good luck on your search!

I called and ordered 5 ton of nut from Chervy yesterday. Let's hope you are right. He said he couldn't deliver to me until after Labor day, but that is fine with me. Sounded like a very nice man when I talked to him. He said it would be between 200 - 205 a ton for nut for me. Could also be my distance from him too. That's fine, Agel was 200 a ton delivered also. So if I am getting better coal fro the same price, I think I did the right thing :D
