It is just sad to see people die from something so preventable.

why can't the screeching foo-foo dog across the street meet the same fate? That's what I thought, it was in a downstairs basement. I'm even guilty of some negligence, I can smell exhaust from the gen I have going constantly now; inside the back porch. The gen exhaust is facing away from the house but parallel to the back porch. The cord goes through a window though, which I have stuffed as much as possible; better tape some plastic over the window.

At least, not to be a dick, the people were elderly and probably lived a good long life in Maine. I'm thinking about Main or Pa. more and more, NJ is overwhelming anymore.

As everybody knows, CO binds to the hemoglobin and prevents the cells from getting life-giving oxygen, it doesn't let go. Even a little CO will still be in the bloodstream many hours later.
I gotta go, carpet drying project to attend to; and the pc cpu fan is not running as fast as it should as far as I can tell, pc kicks off after ten minutes. I think from overheated cpu.

Generatory are far too noisy outside, I can't imagine the sound of one in the basement. Must be they are afraid someone will steal the unit.

That'll keep the honest people from stealing it. I had a chained motorcycle stolen once. They cut that chain like it was an old shoe lace.

Keeping people honest is tough sometimes. Let's say you had an old dresser that you wanted to get rid of. You put it out on the front lawn with a sign that says "FREE"......no one will take it. If you write "$25" on the sign.......someone will steal it! :? Believe me....I know from experience!

CO is no joke. I stopped by my parents house on Monday night to see how they were making out. They had a generator running out behind the house, at least 10' away. While we were talking this loud beeping noise started coming from the basement. I went down to investigate and faintly smelled exhaust. Dad had forgotten one of his basement windows cracked open, and the generator exhaust was making its way into the basement. I closed the window and moved the generator farther away from the house.

The beeping noise was from the CO detector I mounted next to the EFM.

10 chains, 10 padlocks and a .357

Good info! I closed the kitchen door because the screen is in and I smelled exhaust when the gen was running. Also, my CO detector has a battery back up.

That's the main reason I spent the dough on the Yamaha inverter - can't even hear it inside the house, except the room closest to it - if you listen. I can hear the neighbors gens over 500' away clear as day over mine just 50' away. As an added bonus, it sips fuel.

The way I read the article they did have it in the basement of their cabin but it was vented to the outside. Now obviously something clogged the vent but didn't shut the gen down. It's truely a shame but truth be told I could never relax with a gennie anywhere near me enclosed, vented or not. Just to many things to go wrong.

Yup, I heard that last night. It was a "permanant" installation. The exhaust developed a leak & there ya go. I've seen several installations like this. I always thought it was cool, but not anymore! So sad.

Speaking of generators. I see a giant Generac in front of a neighbors house. It's been sitting there for months. The guy is hardly ever home, but I did catch him yesterday & quizzed him about it. Bottom line... anyone want a 100K unit for $500? All it needs is a new engine. It has (had) a 454 V-8 that tossed a rod! It's rigged for propane. I'm temped to buy it just to repair & sell, but.... tough one to sneak past the wife! LOL New they are 23 grand. I'd think this could have a new engine for a grand or two then sell for 10?

Freddy, It has to be a 3 phase unit, and is there a Transfer Switch available at additional cost? 454 burning Propane....man you would need a 3000 gallon tank to run that for a week or two. Ouch.....but enough to power the whole neighborhood.
I have a 454 sitting 50 feet from me.....however Generac frequently modifies starters, alternators, charging circuits so that you have to deal directly with them of their distributors. I know of a 50 K unit with a 350 chevy and 227 hours and a transfer.
Never been used for prime power and the hours are exerciser hours only. Mill shut down, wiring removed to prevent any accidental operation of the equipment. (Good Plan by management) Inside, dry, serviced...7500.00

I was through your area 3 weeks ago delivering 3 boilers, and don't know how to get in touch with you, I will PM you and send my contact info. Going by again next week with 2 more units.

Wow, monster Freddie! I hear ya about the sneak play. I have a little leverage since I just blew $1700 on some fancy stainless washer and dryer combo that she wanted. I'll use this "vig" when the right something comes my way. ;)

Must be the difference between Northern Maine and Central Maine. I have gotten rid of two tables, a dresser, and some pallets this month with FREE signs. Probably the folks up North don't want to feel like they are getting charity. For their own self-respect, they are proud to take the initiative of stealing instead. More self-reliant!
