Floor protection

I just installed a Harmon TLC 2000 at my sister house.Today temps where in the 50's,so i took it for a trial run.It burned nut anthracite excellent.My only concern is the ceramic tile floor the stove is sitting on gets really hot right around it.Tomorrow Im gonna check the actual temp. of the tile with my laser therm.Harmon states in there manual the area under and around the stove must be protected from falling ash and live coals.the floor protector must be of non-comb.material.Ceramic tile is non-comb,but there is OSB board under the tile.I thought it would be ok but the way the tile heats up concerns me.I would appreciate all the help. thanks,Joe

The definition of noncombustible here is open for interpretation. Yes the ceramic tile is non combustible but what underneath as you stated is not. So my first question is did you have your insurance company inspect you install. If they haven't I think that will be your detremining factor of weather you need additional floor protection. When I first put in a stove the insurance company I had at the time said I could only place the stove on a UL approved floor protector and neither a floor like yours or a home made floor protector was acceptable. When I changed companies this year the new company would approve your floor and homemade floor protectors. Since I have a stoker neither company charged me extra for having the stove however my former insurance company did chrge extra for a hand fired appliance like yours because it could burn wood.

I checked the actual temp. with my laser therm. running the stove wide open.The highest the temp. of the tile was right in front of the stove.It was 220 degrees. I really dont think theres an issue with that temp. Joe
