My chainsaw won't start...

See, this is why I come here, thanks Fred. I didn't even think of doing that. The brake handle is all the way forward though.

FIXED! On my saw brake handle forward is brake on. When it's pulled back, towards you, it's off. I put some gas and chain oil in it and it fired right up. Now, as soon as it dries up a bit I can go cut down some bushes so the septic contractor can finish.

There ya go, things are pickin up. One thing at a time. I figured it was one of them thar things--push it--pull it???

Its been so long since I've used it I couldn't remember how it worked. LOL...how sad is that?

I'm really surprised though, it was completely submerged in water for a full day then sat in mud for another day before I got to that side of the basement. I had pegged it for the trash. It runs like it was new. I'm going to change the plug in it; cause its still the original one and see how it does after that.

So, should I try a little mix in it?

Sure! But wait until you get your chain spinning again. Is the chain-brake on, by chance?? Spray wd-40 all over the chain too.

Also, and I'm sorry if this sounds stupid but how do I remove the bar and chain? I undid the retaining nut and loosened the chain all the way but can't figure it out beyond that. Isn't the outer cover supposed to come off?

The cover may not come off on certain saws that have the chain-brake in the side cover, and it is on.
What Make and model saw is it?

Its more important to replace the fuel filter and air filter, than the spark plug. Especially after being immersed for a day in mud. Only use same heat range plug. Don't change it unless you can gap it correctly.

I didn't even replace either the fuel filter/stone or the air filter.

The air filter on the X-Torq 450 is plastic and the filter is one of those porous stone thingies.
