The Cleveland Clowns managed to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory yesterday at the "Factory of Sadness", formerly known as Cleveland Browns Stadium. Here's a posting from a local website that reflects the pride we all have in our local NFL entry. This comment was preceded by the statement "I'd hate to be the one that told Randy Lerner (Browns owner) about how we lost":

Seriously??????

Here's how that went.....

Holgren: "Hello Randy? Yes I'm sorry, I know it 10:00 in the evening there sir (London)"
Randy: "Who is this?"
Holmgren: "It's Mike (Holmgren) in Seattle."
Randy: "Mike in Seattle who?"
Holmgren: "The guy you hired to run the Cleveland, Ohio football team, sir. You know, in the States"
RANDY: "What football team? I only own one football (European soccer) team and they didn't play today"
Holmgren: "American football sir, the Browns."
Randy: "Oh yes, Of course" What is it you want?"
Holmgren: "Just wanted to inform you sir that we lost when we BLOCKED OUR OWN SNAP on a game winning field goal"
Randy: "The goalie did what? "
Holmgren:"Never mind sir, wrong number, go back to your tea and crumpets"

 GO BROWNS!

Yeah the Giants are faltering and looky looky the Jet's are now officially out! What a bone head game last night. Tenn was trying to hand the Jets a win but nope Sanchize throws 4 ints and then fumbles a snap on the Tenn 20 something with 47 seconds left! Wow, laughable.

Pats game was a good one. I really thought it was gonna be a miracle comeback and almost was but you know how almost goes.... ;)

I have to watch the other ryan try to run a defense in a dallas, but wow the bone head in new york isnt too bright. Tim Tebow might not be a top notch qb but he is a versatle player easily use him for so many plays, imagein 2 quarterbacks in the game. Too many different plays to list using tebow. Jets are just dumb best way put.

There is lot of talent on the Eagle but I think the one sign afew games back said it all, "Quit Andy, your team has". Other than the issues with the team Reid is an excellent coach and still is to a point but the magic is gone. He's gone too far away from the things that have made him successful like the occasional onside kick during a kickoff. A lot of people look at that as gimmick but it isn't in my book. Whether it's successful or not is really not the point, those types of plays set other teams on edge and when they are successful completely demoralize the opposition. Turning McNabb into a passing quarterback and not letting him do what he did best was the start of his downfall. The Eagles success was always defined by the unpredictable and wide open offenses and the same could be said of the Jim Johnson defenses. Matter of fact the Jim Johnson defense with Brian Dawkins as the leader on the field is as important if not more important to their successes than anything else. You can't easily replace people like that.

Reid will probably be gone, I don't see how he stays. The bright side is I hear Gruden is on the short list so he'll easily be able to walk into Reids system without having to make drastic changes which will allow him to be immediately competitive as long as the team comes along for the ride . If Foles develops into a decent quarterback and the people around him play to their abilities he'll have a a very good team as soon as next year.

Some of my greatest football memories was watching Gang Green pummel Dallas along with the rest of the teams in the football world. The Eagles weren't winning but there wasn't an offense in the league that wanted anything to do with playing the Eagles.

Buddy didn't win games but he assembled what is among the best defenses ever and would absolutely be considered the very best had those teams had any meaningful offense at all. They go unnoticed but the defensive record speaks for itself. Statistically speaking there is no comparison especially when you consider the jams they would be left in because of the inept offense. They didn't have the convenience of good field position most of the time.

There was one game I recall on Monday night against the Oilers who had the best pass offense in the league, by the end of it even Dierdorf was speechless and that's saying something. To paraphrase Michaels, "Do you think you could get a receiver on the Oilers to volunteer to come across the middle?" They didn't care if they caught the ball, they wanted them to catch the ball.

Rex just anounced that he's going with the 3rd stringer Greg McElroy instead of Tebow! What a smack to the face mask that is. Wow Rex. I think he's afraid that Tim might win and he'll look even sillier for sticking with Sanchize for so long.

This is OLD news and not at all verified. In fact, no short list at all is verified outside of Louri's head.

I never "get" when I hear the Eagles have lots of talent. The Eagles do not have lots of talent. I'll give you,
Offense: McCoy, Jermney Maclin ( 2nd receiver on a good team at best), Advant, and Foles is still an unknown. Not a single O-lineman considered top tier. Unlikely peters comes back better than what he was in 2011.
Defense: Wait a minute, I'm still thinking....still thinking....
Maybe Kendricks can become really good? Maybe....

The Eagles whether be it Reid or Roseman have never had a great draft in Reid's years here. McNabb was his first & best pick. Here's what Reid would do. He'd trade higher picks for multiple lower picks hoping he'll strike gold or find a diamond in the ruff. He hit a few keepers over the years but never any really great players. Here is what else he'd do. Draft guys, let them hang around for one to three years and release for new draft picks only to repeat the cycle the following years. If he had 8 picks, he'd keep 5 to 6 guys, cut 2, and let them play special teams. Now if he'd cut 6 players form a new draft, how would this look? I have studied his drafts year by year. Horrible! Almost no stand outs.
Go here, how many recognizable names do you see? I mean, how many Pro Bowlers?
http://www.pro-football-reference.com/t ... /draft.htm

Here is what Reid is good at 50% of the time. He'll draft a lower round QB, coach him into a better player maybe even an over achiever. Once this QB goes to a new team, he falls flat on his face. eg. Cobb, Feeley
Do you recognize these names? Andy Hall, Mike Kapta. His other two QB picks other than Mc Nabb.

The 2nd best player Reid drafted all time, Brian Westbrook, 3rd Tra Thomas. EDIT: Tra was drafted 1998, prior year to Reid. His 3rd best, toss up between Brent Celek & Sheldon Brown ( likely Jim Johnson pick)
Dawk was picked by Ray Rhodes in 1996.

Where have you gone Barry Gardner?

god this thread is like years old (shouldn't we make a new football thread each season?)

anyways.... the simple truth is and has been for a generation now, that its ALL about the Patriots and everyone else has to play the Pats to get a win here N their in hopes they either get a lucky day or the Pats have an off day. The only season in recent memory this was not the case was the one season Brady was out with his knee injury. Its basically the rest of the world VS the Pat's at this point and everyone is well aware of this fact even though they wont admit to it. Brady is only like 34 or 35 years old at this point so if your not used to the Pat's being in the AFC Championship and/or The SuperBowl every single solitary year then you better start getting used to it or go watch Hockey  im a Steelers fan myself though :punk:
