Some Cool Forum Features

Some Cool Forum Features

These are some feature you may not be aware of:

  • Instead of using the quote button on an individual post you can go right to the posting pane and quote them from the topic review pane, with this feature you can even quote specific text. I've already covered this in this topic: Using the Quote Botton, Special Tip

  • The forum tracks what you have viewed, you can go directly to first post you have not read by clicking this little icon: Image

  • You can also skip to the very last post in a topic by clicking this icon way over on the right: Image

  • The A with the little arrows on each side will increase or decrease the font size.

  • If you have a lot of interest in one forum like for example "Hand Fired Coal Stoves" you can use the link on the lower left "Subscribe forum", this will send you an email notification when a new topic has been posted in that forum. This subscription link also appears for individual topics.

  • Below the subscription link you can bookmark topics, this is stored on the server and is browser independent. Bookmarks can be accessed from the control panel.

  • To insert a smilie you don't have to click them from the smilie pane. If you know the code, just type it out.

  • On the posting pane you'll find these options, the defaults for these options can be found in the control panel:
    Disable BBCode
    Disable smilies
    Do not automatically parse URLs
    Attach a signature (signatures can be altered via the UCP)
    Notify me when a reply is posted

  • You can repost images or links to files from another post using the bbcode below it:
    Code: Select all
    [nepathumb]1134[/nepathumb]

  • For you techies the forum will highlight code, just add a =php in the bbcode, using this
    Code: Select all
    [code=php]$var = '123456';[/code]
    Will produce this:
    Code: Select all
    $var = '123456';

    While it's "=php" it works for any code, if you're familiar with it this uses PHP's built in feature for highlighting:
    Code: Select all
    <html>
    <
    p>test<p>
    </
    html>

Just to add if you have never gone the control panel there is lot of options and features available.
