Looks that the worst of the training stuff will go East of the worst hit areas and go directly over Smitties house. My water heater has just given up..... does that mean the basement has flooded???? Dare I even look? I favor drinking some beer and going to bed. Gettin' too old for this....

Just saw the news and they were showing the mess up there again. Fortunately its not the river but the streets looked a mess.
I had rain all the way home from the garbage state today, heavy at times. T.C. says mostly dry tomorrow so I better keep the raincoat close by.

Buy a dog dog. I don't think they would dare dig a burrow by the house. Once she has one cornered in wood/rock pile she'll spend hours trying to get it out. One part beagle and one part springer spaniel. She's a hunter with insatiable drive..... she's going to wag that tail right off her ass one day.wsherrick wrote:.
DOES ANYBODY KNOW HOW TO GET RID OF CHIPMONKS!!!!??????
Yep, my dog would spend all day digging out that chipmonk. He's a Mouser, and Chipmonks fall right into that category.Richard S. wrote:Buy a dog dog. I hear ya - even I'm gettin' too old for this! At least throw on some hip waders & toss the breaker for that thing though. Yeah I guess I'll be able to winterize the boat in my yard this year. I don't know which is worse: the weather, or this administration!coalnewbie wrote:Looks that the worst of the training stuff will go East of the worst hit areas and go directly over Smitties house. I found this remedy for chipmonks on the internet, fill a 5 gal bucket about 2/3 s full of water, float sunflower seeds on the top of the water, place a board leading up the bucket and place a few sunflower seeds on the board, the chipmonk will see the sunflower seeds on the board and eat its way up the board, when it gets to the end of the board and see's all the sunflower seeds in the bucket it will jump in and wont be able to get out. if this isnt clear enough instructions just google " chipper dipper" for better instructions, I can tell you from my oun experience that this does work. We were over run but the little critters but now have control of the problem. Good luck

*censored* story number... 5, 6?
This guy is looking over the bicycle stuff, there is lot of bicycle stuff in this pile that is really old and actually valuable. In any event he knows exactly what he's looking at and the value, he picks up a bunch of brand new but old Park bicycle wrenches which is big name in the bicycle business. These are all specialized wrenches specifically for bikes like spanner wrenches for the bottom bracket, they are sealed in plastic and have nothing but a little mud on the plastic wrapping. I told him half price and to top it off they were 80's prices. "Too much..." he says. Fine so I set them down. Next he's looking at this big garbage pail of bike stuff and wants a price on the whole garbage can, this was stuff we set aside to look through later. I told him him he could look through it but I wasn't going to sell him the whole garbage can, one reason being there was tools in their for the bike shop that weren't for sale. The last straw was him making a comment to another customer we were trying to sell at retail...... Walked right over and told him to leave. Then he started mouthing of to me from his car and I picked up giant dowel........ That was the end of the mouth.
It's unbelievable the idiots, like the guy who offered $2 for $200 worth of lag bolts.

I'm an old flea market hunter from way back, the most greedy, petty chislers in the whole world are professional garage sale scavengers. They want everything for nothing and when they get something way under value they brag about how the got over. I have no tolerance for these people. None what so ever.

I have no probelm with someone trying to get a good deal, but some of these offers are insulting, the lag bolts was probably best example. They weren't even rusty or muddy... they washed up good. Matter of fact once I got there I had him push two dollies worth of nuts and bolts back into the store. There was at least $10K and maybe as much as $20K on those dollies. The problem I have is you're not going to sit there and insult me or the owner once you find out you're not getting some ridiculous price, just leave.
He's giving some real good deals on stuff, lot of them he's losing money but that's the way it is on stuff that is not moving. We were selling selling really good 100W light bulbs for $5/box of 48 and it took all week to get rid of them. The prices for a lot of stuff is slowly coming down and shortly it's either going to get all get marked drastically or put back into the store. He has a lot of stuff like plexiglass that realistically shouldn't be for sale half price, I'll be using that for his new shelves and cases.
Glad I did stop in to offer help, I rarely talked to this guy over the last 20 years. He got married, had kids and we kind of drifted apart. I've seen him more in the last week than I've seen him in 20 years. He's offered me a job and I may take it at least until he gets back on his feet, his Dad recently passed away and he he needs someone there above and beyond basic help. He's going to completely revamp the store top to bottom and one thing I'm going to build him shelves, bins, cabinets and peg board units. Probably looking at 30 or 40 units and everything is going to be 8 feet long and most importantly have wheels. It's unlikely this will happen again in our lifetime but if it does he'll be able push right out the door onto a truck and get the hell out of Dodge. There's other benefits to the wheels, he can rearrange things easily and move them around for cleaning.
I will note there is lot of really nice people out there, there was one woman looked like she was going to burst into tears. I've had people give me full retail value on stuff, there is a lot of people that said keep the change and when I say change it might be $5 to $20 dollars.

Chipmunks all over here too. I spritzed copper napthenate in their ground holes and closed them up; they dig back in or out. I put concrete in their holes under the porch, I have to check if it set before they could dig it out!
I closed up woodchuck holes where they got in under the front porch. Woodchucks undermined the foundation all over. This is an old summer cottage and the footers aren't really deep enough!
My landlady is just flat out stupid feeding corn the the damn deer. Stubborn as hell. There's a beautiful, healthy, well fed, dead doe on the street below the property here. Hit by a car.
Smitty I know you're kidding but I would never eat a mushroom off the ground. Some of them will literally kill your liver.
I'll post pics of the slope work I'm doing in the other thread. At least all the dirt I spread didn't wash away. Basement is dry. I'm too old for all this too! Takes me 2 days to recover from 1 day of labor...
I need a piece of plexiglass 2' x 5' to fix my truck cap back window. Too bad I live so far too. If you can deal with customers and the public it's a gift! I used to hit a lot of garage sales but got run off here in NJ. Illegals took over it's too depressing to do battle with them. They love garage sales. Same thing with the flea market that's been in town for decades. I've been a hard bargainer at times, but not as bad as the vultures Richard describes. I have said in the past, " This is a garage sale, not retail!" That just insults the seller. Other times I'll say, "I don't want to insult you, but I could offer you....".
