Rain Event Starting 9-6-11

So how are all the NEPA members fairing ???

Pottstown supposed to have moderate flooding but it still is pouring upstream near Reading and further north and west in the Schuylkill basin. We have already exceeded their river forecast for the time of the day.

How about you Tom, you're upstream about 6 miles ???

And what about our fearless leader up there on the Susquehanna?? How about it Richard ? Any updates ??

We still have a small unoccupied house left on the lot where the other burned. Looks like it's going to get flooded because there is no dikes in West Pittston. Worse part is we were storing a lot of stuff from the fire in it, started moving it out this afternoon.

The forecast this afternoon was for 38 feet at Wilkes Barre, they bumped it up to 38.5 feet and having been through this a couple of times I'm guessing tomorrow it will be higher. This will be the highest river event of my life excluding Agnes in 72 when I was 1. The levee protection is only good for 41 feet which is just above Agnes, this could be an enormous disaster in the making for the Wyoming Valley.

This is picture from the old house actually during another event in 2004, the river is just beyond the trees down the end of the road. At 35 feet this road is covered.

Holy crap! That chart looks crazy! At least you guys are smart enough to get all your stuff out ahead of time. Still a pain in the ass though I'll bet.

I saw all the "red" on the radar going over PA & WNY today .... craziness .....

I have just returned from the barn as the stuff coming to us looks ugly and I have cleared out sump wells etc. From what see on the radar E. PA and NYS are about to get absolutely clobbered. I think that just about any levees etc. are about to get breached and epic rains are here. I pray for you. Everybody needs to review the radar map and take appropriate action. Mother nature can be a bitch.

I live long the Manatawny Creek. So far we have
dodged a bullet. Last night it was up against the building,
but stalled out there. So far, so good.

I've gotta say, I'm getting really and I mean REALLY sick and tired of this weather. REALLY!!!

Woke up this morning. Showered, got dressed. Left to go to work. God damned road has washed away. AGAIN!! Called my boss and he started to laugh. Doesn't matter. Route 23 is closed here in Sussex, then again in Franklin, then in Stockholm then down south in Wayne.

I decided to come home, went into the basement. There is an 1" of water down there. The new pump I just bought seems to be keeping up. My only worry is that we lose power again. Which would suck. Since the only way out of my lake is the back mountain pass and I don't have my truck. I dropped it off on Monday to have the brakes fixed. We're poor right now so I haven't picked it up yet. No money. So, if we lose power I've only got enough gas in the generator for a few hours.

So, I came back in the house and looked out my front window. WHAT A SURPRISE!!! My yard is flooded. Again. My septic tank, came out of the ground...AGAIN!!! Guess the securing it with the excavator didn't work.

Yeah, I'm not happy. In fact. If I could kick the *censored* out of mother nature I would. I'm tired of this *censored*.

We have LEE pushing rain up from the Southwest and Katia pushing rain in from the Southeast, the whole east coast is going to be pinched between them.

Running on generator power as I make this post. Power went out at 5:30 AM Thursday. First time we have lost power in a few years. It stayed on the entire duration of Irene. Don't know how wide spread the outage is. Cable TV service is now out too. I guess the batteries in utility pole mounted amplifier died. My internet connection is via Verizon DSL so it's still working.

Good luck to all the others in PA and elsewhere. All this rain is sure to spread it's misery far and wide.

Yes, I did. And I was kind of hoping the, "Oh, *censored*!!" moment of blowing the rear brake lines out of my Dakota last Saturday while driving 40mph down route 565 was it.

Guess I was wrong.

Hope all younz on the Eastern areas make it without much damage, guess my area is lucky because it drains so well but even then if we got the extended rain like that we would be up s*** creek also.

Made it through the night OK so far. The Schuylkill in Pottstown topped out at 16.01' at 3:34 this morning. Flood stage is 12' It is dropping slightly but now they predict it to rise again to 20'

The wife is already moving their store inventory up high on the shelves. Time will tell if they have it high enough.

Down here at the new shop, the river would have to go over 100' to get me. And if that happened, well lets just say the boat better be ready and armed to the teeth.

Radio reports major traffic problems in the greater Phila. area due to flooded and mudslided roads. And they reported that Harrisburg has received over 10" of rain in the past 48 hours. The Susquehanna basin is huge. It will take quite some time to drain that area.

I had gone up on the flat roof after Irene and blew all the oak debris off. Nothing big at all. I have to attend to that roof this season. I put a false second roof over the existing lowest areas years ago. That was over years of roof coating I used to put on every six months. My design, made of OSB chipboard, literally rotted out from under the new roll roofing over the years, I trapped moisture in it despite a small vent I put on the side. Anyway, water dripped in during the storm. Went up there and looked for the problem and found it; a six inch split. I put Grace Vycor patch over it and tarred it. That did the trick. The flat roof sags and has bellies in it, the sides are higher than the middle. Gonna be a tough project to do cheaply.

Last night I fell out with the TV still going, I was thinking, I bet the power is stronger than ever now! The army of linemen must have cut every branch in NJ away from the power lines and replaced every bad transformer and component! Just then the power snaps off! AAARRRRGHHHH It went on and off three times, then conked out for an hour.

Installer is coming soon to check his hybrid furnace. I just went in to the basement, it's seeping water in several places again. Not too bad. Another bear to fix. If the floor is just like the old sidewalks that were put in here when it was a post-war summer house, they're thin and cracked all over. I'm going to have to get a lot of peeling paint off the floor, contend with the area that is soaked in 50 years of fuel oil; and figure out how to waterproof it. I thought of skim coating it with mortar, also have a big roll of fiberglass cloth. I might just fiberglass the damn floor. It prolly wouldn't adhere everywhere, but it would be like a boat hull!

I'm just waiting for the power to fail by me. As it usually does in this weather. Although, there were still First Energy crews from Texas floating around my lake up until Tuesday of this week. So, maybe they did cut a lot of trees back.

My Dak is still at the shop. The brake lines for the rear have been replaced and my wife and I are contemplating trying to go out and retrieve it.
