Stoker Coal Boiler: Keystoker K6

Post by sterling40man » Sun. Sep. 18, 2011 10:47 am

Morning list. Missed yesterday's coffee. Had to start up the K6......and then we had a birthday party for my boy. 5 years old already....time flies! Burned about 20lbs in 24 hours...not bad! Fall is among us for sure....it was 34* this am. Suppose to be in the mid 60's for a few days which is comforting. I was talking about coal with my new boss the last week. He sounded very interested and just pulled the plug and bought a LL Pioneer. He'll remove the wood stove in his living room and replace it with the Pioneer. Should heat his 1,500 SF house with no problems at all. I already gave him a few tips like getting a cover for the ashpan and making sure his coal is wet when he dumps it into the hopper for less dust. He also said that his wife was totally onboard with burning coal! I guess she told him that she didn't want to stack firewood! Another family that's come to the darkside! :D Have a great week everyone.

DVC500 at last wrote:Morning all. Its a little brisk outside, but its raining, so I know it could be cooler if there weren't any clouds in the sky. No heat source needed. Yet...
We are all out of Folgers, so we are trying Nescafe' Clasico. Its not too bad, but half the text on the outside of the jar is spanish

So that means you need to buy a third thermometer

I'm getting ready to pour a low 1" slab to set the DVC500 on. I thought about using Hardi-board and tiles, but I don't want to put screws into these 100 year old beautiful wood floors. All the boards are End-cut, so you see the tightness of the grain. A rarity, these days.

I had the pleasure of working on a 45 year old chainsaw this week. An old Partner P-85. Its BIG. Its HEAVY. But it cuts like nobody's business! Has a huge Bow-bar on it. Must weigh 40lbs, all together. Customer's complaint: "It won't start". Opened up the cover, and found all the wiring insulation had rotted off thru the years. It also had 5lbs of wood chip & oil 'bread-dough' stuck inside of it. No way to work on it, unless it all got scrapped out. Got the saw running (Fuel line rotted and cracked) but I'm still dealing with phantom electrical issues due to the condition of the wiring. I started it at night, and the engine lit up with arcing from 12 different places! Amazing it started t all!
New wiring on order.
Why not just put a heat pad board down under the stove no need to drill anything lay down stick stove on it and you can put a fire proof rug in front if the pad is not long enough to cover front area But don't really understand why your messing
with stoker stove when you have a boiler outside in work shop :P Many different types also shop around there not that
much money link below is Just for being would not spend that much on one there are other places that sell them for much less
