Get Ready-It's On The Way

Here are a couple of Maps with a preliminary forecast for this upcoming Winter. When Joe Bastardi releases his forecast next week I'll post it also. Regardless it is as I have thought. Get your stove polished and the coal in the Box.

How about Northern NY? :fear: Could be worse I guess, I would take colder temperatures over extra snow anyday.

I can remember the winter of 2001/02 very well. I lived in Rhinebeck, New York and was mowing my lawn on December 7th amid breaks watching the History Channel about Pearl Harbor. The weather was warm and beautiful and we needed it that year!

Come on Rob, when that heavy snow banks around this 200 yr old farm house, it's like I died & went to heaven, plus being a lot easier to heat the old homestead. Office for the ageing called yesterday & explained that the $700.00 from HEAP received by many seniors the last couple years has been dropped to $300.00 this year for the entire heating season--now, I can still get out there & make some supplimental monies, but I know some other people (AMERICANS, VETS, RETIREREE'S. etc) that can't. I hope them stinkin illegals think about that while they're spewing their baby's & collecting welfare here in the good old USA--Thanks BO, you peice of sh---t  :( Damn, I feel better after that rant. Thanx for listening guys. toothy

What are you all complaining about? This is my winter work forcast! I'm a truck driver that goes to MA twice a week, and I go up I-88 thru NY! So not only will I have to drive in this crap, I get to spend the rest of my time at home (if I even make it home within my hours) shoveling 5 feet of snow! While you are all sleeping soundly inside with your coal stoves, totally unaware of being snowed in overnight, this will be the next few months of my life. Grrr!

I agree that some snow around the foundation helps hold the heat, but anything beyond that is just a pain in the rear. Heavy snow = lots of of time plowing, and lots of guys shoveling off the roof on the old freestall barn. I'd rather burn an extra ton of coal than have to risk my life shoveling off the roof.

Looks like a normal winter in these parts, here's one for you Fred that damn B.O. should have asked Congress to cut the program then everyone would be nice & toasty this winter, it's the Congress that cut the program. There will be way too many people in need this year so they have to cut somewhere. Why not the elderly, disabled vet's, retiree's & the like, they won't say much if you cut welfare there will be hell to pay.

The more scientific approach is to watch for the first snow that you can track a cat, and the day # on the calendar it falls on is the # of snow storms for that year.

I am always looking for better winter predictors and I have to agree with William that Bastardi seems the best. Looking forward to the next post. The most accurate report is the Weather Channel in June reviewing what happened last winter.

My best weather report up in Vt back in the 70's--an old farmer used to do it every morning--" snowin to beat the band this morning, can't tell ya how much yet, hasen't stopped" everything else has just been BS since. toothy

We're ready at our house in the western U.P. of Michigan! I've been quietly putting away enough wood and coal to heat for about 5 years! 9 #2400 skids of anthracite plus 6 chords of split/dry/stacked wood with another 10 chords of uncut logs to cut & split by next year are all on hand. C'mon snow and cold!! :D :D
