Thanks Guys

The 909 # worked & I was able to contact them - the bethlehemcoal.com site for some reason was let expire - but with a wild guess I input bethlehemcoalcompany.com - & found a simple site w. a # - they are calling back with a delivery date. When I found their website expired - I feared the worst - & was looking to see if anyone bought coal from them this season. If it was me , I'd have a website working full bore & be posting on this site - but thats just me.

I'll keep you posted as to how it works out.

Their new website says "A new generation of owners". Since Ron(?) sold the company it appears to have gone through several family members. I still see their truck at the yard in Brightwaters, NY but the current corporate address leads to:

Bethlehem Coal & Farms Inc
32 Sedgemere Road, Center Moriches, NY
(631) 499-4032

Last week I was looking for 2 tons of nut. Rella quoted $311/ton, Bethlehem $296.

Got 4 tons of rice on Monday - no problems :D - called the 499-4032 number - but Chris? indicated the new number to call is 806-7729 as the other numbers are eventually going . Indicated they worked hard over the summer, moving to a new yard & built concrete bins (with concrete floors!) e.northport or comack. He also said their new website will be up shortly. Real nice guy - I wish them luck.

I called Bethlehem Coal today to get prices. The price flucuates with quantity. I never dealt with them before, any opinions? I'm looking to buy bagged nut coal. I asked about the brand coal they sell, but they didn't know??? They told me the coal is from the Susquehanna mine. I usually deal with Rella Coal in Medford, but Bethlehem is a bit cheaper...both product and delivery. They are the only 2 dealers on Long Island that I know of. Any hidden dealers out there?

Ya only two. there are a few coal wholesalers noted on Long Island when doing a search but they are just offices arranging for overseas export of US coal.

Four of us have used Bethlehem for a few years. Rice and Pea/Nut combo. They've been reliable and none of us have had issue with their quality. Web doesn't work but Carla answers her phone and calls back. We've got our orders in and expect delivery in a couple of weeks

Side note: I'd go back to oil before I give Rella a dime.

Good to know!

I called the other day and left a message. Carla called back within minutes, she was busy with a delivery. Seems like a decent outfit. I think I'll give them a shot.

ablumny,

Where about in Holtsville are you located? I grew up in Holtsville just off North Ocean Avenue, neighborhood behind the Ecology Site. I now live just up the road in Medford, off Southaven Avenue.

Finally received our 4 ton nut delivery for the season. Delivery was a bit of a hassle. They canceled a few times and was extremely late on delivery day... :( . I was surprised to find out a landscape company delivered my coal... . I'm used to Rella Coal and their operation. I guess it doesn't matter how I get my delivery, as long as I get it! I tried to find out from Carla what brand coal Bethlehem Coal sells, but she was unsure. Lit up on October 23rd. So far the coal is clean and burns well. Btu's seem about the same as Blaschak coal. I guess the real test will be when the cold weather settles in! I did find some crap in the coal, not too bad. Sticks (which burn) and oddly seashells? Ash...OMG! I haven't really been pushing the stove, burning about 350. I find that Bethlehem coal has a VERY high ash content. I shake the stove every 12 hours. I usually get a full ash pan in the dead of winter with Blaschak coal and about a half a pan in the shoulder months. I've been getting full pans since start up. I shook down the other day and there was so much ash it spilled over and filled up the ash compartment. I dumped the pan and shoveled out another full pan from the bottom compartment...and still had a little left over...YIKES  . I hope the full 4 tons isn't like this? Also, the coal came in sand bags and was extremely dry. Every time I touch a bag a plume of black dust pours out of the bag. Blaschak coal came bagged in plastic and was wet which helped keep the dust at bay. Even some bags of Blaschak coal which contained dry coal were clean to handle. I miss Blaschak coal about now. Sorry for venting, just trying to share my experience. Kinda stinks that we here on Long Island have very limited options for coal suppliers!

Long Island needs a "buyers group" for better options and price!
