I can run mine down to where I can just about lay my hand on it and leave it there. At times I thought it would not come back. But open it up, and within a few minutes, here she comes. It's one of the things I really like about it. We don't need to use windowstats and let heat out of the house like my buddy does. During shoulder seasons, I've let it closed up for two days already without touching it, and it comes back when I need it. I have the hand damper closed as always while running, but I would also unhook the chain from the t-stat door in the back and let it closed. It's cast so it leaves just enough air in even when shut to keep it barely going.

I have a baro damper installed. The owner's manual does recommend one installed although one would go in regardless.
