Looks like JimD has been busy! No wonder he hasn't been on the forum lately. Look what I found! 8-)

Nice work Jim!! I think he'll sell quite a few of these bad boys once his name gets out there.

American ingenuity at it's finest. :verycool:

Looks pretty close the LL stove designs ( box itself).

I dont like the way the convection blower is mounted with the intake vertical. If you spill your coal or get coal dust over the bin, it will go right into the blower.

Thanks,
Glenn

Don't know how well you can see these pix--BUT-- even with my horizontal blower--I put foam over the open ends plus I'm careful with ash removal/shaking down/topping off ;) Just one old guys experience. Just for the curious--I have no idea why my flash isn't working--new fangled crap.  toothy

If the Anthracite Institute still existed, or a similar regulating body, they would recommend that all coal appliances come standard with the Coal Jack’s Safe At Home Carbon Monoxide automatic shut-off unit.

Yeah he's the only one that does that - great idea. Surprised in today's sue-happy society that more haven't done this years ago.

It is the sue happy society that has kept stove makers from integrating CO detection. Once you include it you become liable for an incident involving something that it *should* have detected, by virtue of the detector being integrated into it. Also, CO detectors need to be replaced every few years so integrating into a stove can be a maintenance issue that manufacturers do not want to deal with (especially with liability attached).

Jerry Steward, the original owner of Leisure Line tried and did the same thing with a CO detector.

We at LLS built and sold a device that was wired into a gas alarm and would shut the stove down if anything happened. I had called many CO alarms mfgs and was told that it could be done but was placed on the back shelf because of liability. So after much searching I ended up with a company from Mexico that was willing to build me a sample. I paid over $500.00 for the sample (one of a kind) and started to work. I was going to make burning coal safe for all. WHAT A JOKE. I spent many thousands of dollars to have plastic boxes made just to hold it, more money for relays, wiring etc, etc. After I had it I couldn't sell it to dealers. I was told that it would scare the customer away. My insurance people told me that 1 failure would be a huge law suit. So after butting my head against the wall for months, I gave the idea up. I think the system we have is ass backwards. Saving lives needs to come before law suit money and personal feelings.
