Us boiler guy's like to keep the water inside nice and toasty. But my boiler is fed before the water softner and the bacteria light, the coal will do the rest :P

Why do you want to store so much salt ? I buy 5-8 bags 40lb at $5 at lowes twice a year.

Because last year I found it at 3$ at Bjs.
I have the space and I'll save 120, 300 adjusted for 5 years of inflation. That's another ton of coal.

Sound's practicle too me if you have the room. That still sounds like alot of salt. I know a man that's aunt died 15-20 years ago and he has not had to buy any ivory soap ever since

using a metered head on your water softner will save water and salt, as it only regenerates according to gallons of water used. pays for itself very fast, I use about 6, 40lb. bags a year.

Found out home depot has a discount if you buy 9 pallets. Should come out to 4$ a bag vs 5-6 otherwise. anyone in ct interested in a pallet or two let me know.
