Ohio State Wild/Exotic Animal Regulation

My guess would be that Ohio will be putting in some type of regulation concerning exotic animals. It's a real shame that almost all of those animals had to be put down.

This had been an ongoing issue in Ohio for some time. Stirred previously by such stalwart organizations as Peta & Hsus as Society's view and encroachment(Housing,Sprawl) of where these Operations have been previously more isolated changes,incidents and harassment of these operations have ensued. After a bear mauled a young man to death working as an employee in 2010,then Gov.Strickland rammed through 2 pieces of emergency Executive -Powered Orders. He essentially stiffed the entire Exotic Animal Industry in Ohio. Announced on April 4,2011 at http://www.ohiodnr.com :

" A"Work Group" of 10 diverse Stakeholder Organizations has begun meeting on a monthly basis to consider how to regulate species deemed to be dangerous Wild Animals in Ohio. This process was ordered by the Kasich Administration due to the April 6,2011 expiration of Executive Order 2010-17 S and Emergency Administrative Rule 1501:31-19-5 " Banning the Posession,Sale and Transfer of said animals.

In my opinion,two bad abuses of Executive Power by Strickland that left all facets of the Wild Animal Industry high,dry and screwed in Ohio. If the Muskingum County Sherriff's Dept story about this guy,who purportedly lost his mind,set all 56 animals free on his 73 acre compound and then went into his home and committed suicide and had a Criminal record is true,then I want to hear it all. What type of criminal record? Were nearby Yuppies and insidious Animal Rights Activists hounding him and his wife? I still remember the Ecoterrorists out west who burned a ski lift and Lodge to the ground because it wasn't acceptable to them. I really want to see proof that this guy lost it and killed himself. The Authorities made this look to easy to explain. No,I don't trust them. I do however believe in People before Animals. If shooting them was the only way,well then so be it. I wouldn't want to see a cop mauled and killed. I want more details before closing the book on this travesty. At last report,a Grey Wolf and a Monkey were still on the loose. Zoo officials recommended shooting the Monkey because it is possibly infected with Hepatitus "B"....Helluva Day In Ohio

It headlined the national news last night. What a sad situation. The one thing they could have done was not allowed the gruesome photos to be taken.

Sure sounds like more of the story needs to be released. Owner took his own life after letting these fine animals free?
Sad day.......reminds a person why the Indians/Native Americans said:' Don't ever trust the white man!' What the hell ever became of tranquilizer guns? Traded in for 'Swat Team' hardware?
My money says Ohio has more than it's fair share of 'Quiche gnawing' SOB's in the Legislature there.

Our State Motto sure wouldn't work out well in Ohio. "Live free or Die".............. was just what happened, but the caged life is 'no more' for these magnificent creatures. It sure would be responsible to NOT keep showing the pics of this carnage. HINT, Hint, hint........................to the news media. There are plenty of GOOD things to report about......try that for a change!! NUFF SAID!!!!

From the last I had heard they did tranquilize a few of them that are now in a local zoo, & a couple of others attacked after being hit with the tranquilizer(guess it's not as fast as on TV). I would think with daylight hours getting shorter & most likely the animals getting hungry they had to do what they had to. I'm sure the full story will come out, they did have people there that know these type of animals, I'm also sure that very few police carry a tranquilizer rifle in their trunks.

I saw the police chief explaining his decision & although it is a sad situation, I think he made the right choice in 86ing the animals. It's hard to lock down an entire Town & let's face it, these weren't a bunch of lil puddy tats. Let's focus back on the crazy SOB that let all the critters out of thier cages.

That being said,Fred,it truly appears that he was a complete loop-head ......I can't stand the sensationalism in the media. The first thing they take off on is a guy with a gun or tee-off on someone who's an easy mark because he's not one of our New Age Society's darlings. The facts seem to be that he totally lost it after many months of decline. the worst part of it,after having to dispatch the animals,is what he did to his wife and the community around him. The place was a train-wreck,there's claims of underfed animals and a growing obsession with animal hoarding. As much as I always question authority,I'm now questioning this man's last moments even more. The whole story must and will come out. I guess one of the big cats went charging at one of the tech's trying to tranquilize it,charging them. They had to drop it. I have no beef with the authorities eliminating the high risk to human life. They had a crap situation dropped in their laps and I think they did a hell of a job in poor weather and short daylight. I think Gov. Kasich is taking heat for not knee-jerking like Gov. Strickland did. I think he's right. You have to be able to deal with those that have these types of animals in a fair and responsible way. Those that own these animals,whether for business or hobby,must be responsible for the safety of all Humans and for the safety of the animals also. Last I heard,this was a Democracy. However,with priviledges and rights come responsibilities and consequences.....No Free Lunch......
