I've been ready since the beginning of October myself. Had a few Cowboy charcoal fires and two wood fires. Then I decided to fire up the oil furnace about two weeks ago. We only use it to take the edge off the house. November 1St can't come fast enough. I miss burning coal. I've been checking the weather 15 days in advance and it looks like the 1st will be that day, high of 50° and a low of 28°.

What a nice picture and what a good feeling to know you will have heat regardless of the weather.

Looks like today will be thee day I fire the stove up. Just looked at the weather and it's only going to be in the low to mid 50°'s during the day and in the 20°'s at night for the next several weeks.

I'm gonna be running range until I can run strictly nut starting late November.

Wondering why the squirrels cleaned off our corn stalks. Never seen this in 20 years. Now they are chewing on the pumpkin and gourds on the front porch. We are surrounded with oak trees and not an acorn fell this year. Strange don't know how the wildlife will fair.

I'll save you some money on the corn....you can have all the acorns you'd care to bag from here. :P I think we had a record number this year. They must be pretty tasty too, the deer have been hanging around under one particular tree eating them morning and night.

That's funny, I'm fixing up a lady's house, big colonial with the columns in front. Really neglected house. There's critter holes in the columns. I was gonna foam them up today because she wants just minimum repairs to get through the winter. She seemed to think these abandoned holes will just get opened again immediately. I have to be extremely delicate with the lady, kinda kooky. I'll tell her I can put sheet metal behind the repair, see if she goes for it.
I took pictures of her roof and all my work, told her I would email them to her. She acted like I was a Soviet spy or something! Whatever lady!

The pisser is, she has a IH Cub Cadet I want really bad. I have to be extremely careful, hope I get it, but I ain't beggin for it!

There was a piebald fawn in the area this year. She had seen it, but thought somebody KIDNAPPED it.

Anyway, had two fires already. First one baked me and I had to leave the door to the garage open. The place was warm well after the fire went out, sheetrock must have held some heat.

2nd one I built on the ash bed, shoved the ash to the side to open a little grate space. That burned nice all night. My stove is too big for the place, I might put a second layer of firebrick in this season to make the firebox smaller.

Got mine going now. I'll get the large load in a week or so. Doing the bucket brigade for now. 160# $22 and change.

$287/ton bulk, picked up this year!
