Where are all the acorns this year ? A friend told me the woods surrounding his house didn't give any this year, and my 8 oaks haven't produced any either. Their is an oak tree at my church that did, but it sits on a bank that receives less rain from run off, and it gave less acorns than normal (usually it's a bumper crop :o )

Never fear - I have all your Acorns. I have picked up 3 55 gallon barrels on them from my just over 1/4 acre lot. Of course, I have a lot of limbs from the park land draping over my lot, too. I normally don't pick them up but this year I found that the squirrels just were not up to the job. I took the barrels back into the woods and dumped them for the squirrels and the deer. This bounty is part of the reason I purchased an additional 1/2 t of coal. I think it's going to be a cold one.

Same here... We have two white oak in front of the house and there are no acorns on the ground. I usually can
fill a large trash can.

I remember hearing acorns produced every other year. This article confirms that. http://www.ehow.com/facts_7680900_do-trees-not-ac ... -year.html

Our yard is COVERED with acorns. They sound like a shotgun everytime one hits the roof, and they've been falling in bunches for the past month. BAM-BAM-BAM-BAM all day and night. :mad3:

we have had more black bear issues this year than ever. it seems due to the rain there are no acorns this year and since the black bears need about 20000 calories a day now for thier pre slumber fatten-up, they have taken to ravage garbage and bird feeders more.

they say the acorn is thier key food to put on the fat.... ;)

We must have the bumper crop of acorns you all are missing. There are tons of them here, the deer have been feasting on them, they particularly like one tree.

Heavy acorn crop here too. Sounds like a fire fight when the breeze kicks up and they hit the vehicles and camper. Damn things actually dent the roofs and hoods.

White Oak family produces acorns annually, black oak family bi-annually. I think my Red Oak (black oak family) is void of acorns for two straight years now too. So, maybe something to it?

My English Walnuts, not so great either but all of the Black Walnuts produced very heavy this year. Figures as Black Walnuts become an eye sore while the English Walnuts are very edible and taste great. The squirrels raid the English Walnuts leaving the Black Walnuts to rot. I trapped four of those rodents and moved them to the top of the mountain back in the summer with hopes I could preserve my crop.

Last couple years here was our bumper crop. Was tough hunting - deer had plenty of food, so didn't move around much. This year is 100% opposite - no acorns hardly at all! Should be a good hunting season. 8-)
