Advice please on painting

My place is not nearly as ornate as WNY's. It started as a simple farmhouse, kind of stayed that was through the 1930's renovation. The crap aluminum siding removed whatever character it had.

Hopefully the eventual removal of all of it and the new clapboards & trim will bring back some of the character.

I'll try to post a pic of how it looks now over the weekend.

Pic I took last year for cold chimney? thread. The part of the side of the house w/o aluminum I sided w/ clapboards in July. Nothing is level or plumb.
