manual control to a coal-trol

Hi to everyone,
I am new to coal burning and this fourm helped me decide on a LL stove. I purchased a pioneer le top vent stove from a friend who needed a bigger sove. My question is the stove is a manual control, nob on back and setings for fan, can i put a coal-trol control unit on it? I know i would like that kind of constant temp. I talked to one dealer who said if the stove was older than 2 years i could not do it and the stove is 4 years old, I think, serial # 6523. I also talked to another dealer who said he runs the coal-trol off from a regular dial thermostat not an electronic one. Thanks, any info will help.

You absolutely can put a coal-trol on it. :)

Talk to a different LL dealer, call LL direct, or call us direct (315-299-3589). Try the dealers first, though, as they sometimes offer you a better price than our list price.

You souldn't have any problem hooking up a CoalTrol. If you just have the rheostats to control the feed and burn, You will LOVE the Coaltrol. My LL Hyfire is 1996 vintage and I put the CoalTrol on in about 10 mins. If you have the plugs on the cords. Otherwise, you will have to add plugs (Or get the plug kit from CoalTrol) to convert it.

It uses its OWN thermostat, you can't use a standard thermostat with it, but it controls extremely good, and you can control the feed, blowers, temp, etc..all from a remote location (it's not wireless, but has a 25' thermostat cord, but can be extended). :)

You can pretty much put a coaltrol on any type, any age stoker. Only thing you may have to watch out for is the convection blower motor running too slow and overheating. That of course depends on the type of motor is on the stove. If you have no blower then no problem. The coaltrol will control the stoker motor and the combustion blower and it will hum right along. Conversion is easy. The hardest part is removing other controls and leaving nothing but the blowers and the stoker motor, then rewiring to put plug in cords on each motor.

Four years now burning the black gold (and that is not oil). Keystoker 90 manual and a DVC, also kinda semi-manual - both great stoves though. Also I used Poconos and Anthrakings (both Coal-trol). Coal-trols and carpets are the ONLY way to fly - trust me (in MY application). PS, my AnthraKing and my c rappy generator will never be dancing partners - had to shut it down. Don't blame LL blame the fact that I can't afford a fancy generator.

Thanks all for the info. I feel much better about burning caol now that I can put the caol-trol system on it. I am going to contact a dealer near me this weekend. Will let you know how it works out once I get it and put it on.

It can be done easily. It is recommended to also replace the carpet with a non adjustable one and the feed arm and bearing to the new style. If you need cords we have them as well. If your dealer is not sure have them call us. The phones have been very busy so if he dosen't get back to you right away please be patient. Thanks ,Dave
