Absolutely! Might's well. I admit that I'm not a religious type. Too much science I guess. I do feel spiritual though, but I'm not hedging any bets about heaven and/or any after life. I'm living mine right here and now as if it's the only one I'll ever have, because I think it is.

But why such negative outlook?? Mankind has come a long way in such a short amount of time, look at the last two hundred years! Hardly a blink of an eye when you look at the big picture.. I'm sure a 1000 years from now, new things will be discovered and new technology will make things possible that we never thought would happen :D

Not long ago it was thought that Earth was the center of the universe.... and so on, and so forth....

If you look at the last couple of decades it looks like we were standing still for 250 years or so, in another decade or less everything new now will be laughed at.

It's not being negative Lightning, maybe just realistic. I don't feel negative at all. I'm a happy person and I love my life and hope to enjoy every minute of it. I'm not going to spend much time "planning" for any " afterlife" is all I meant. Sam is right too, we are zipping along at highspeed. We're in Moore's Law of tech. Sometimes though, like the light bulb, it burns brightest just before burning out. ;) There I go being negative again!

Please don't get the wrong impression, I didn't mean you personally were negative, I just thought your outlook a bit bleak :) But at any rate, at least now mankind has a chance against things that in the past had caused mass extinctions. For example, a big astroid. Maybe thats what the world needs to unite it, a massive effort to push a big astroid off a collision course with Earth..

Everything evolves, we as individuals, our technology, our political system, and the universe.

It is a universal constant. Our very existence will depend on the ability to evolve a technological and political system to cope with the very real threats to life as we know it.

This evolution will depend, just as in biological evolution, on the individual. Maximal freedom for the individual is the only sound way for this evolution to occur. Without it we are on a sure road to extinction.

So the guy's a southern Baptist, so what. Nice of you to drag the politics section over here. Real classy.

G. Gordon Liddy said the theory of evolution was the same as believing the dictionary was created from an explosion of a printing press.
How does knowing how I got here help me cope with being here?

It certainly doesn't hurt to know how and why and it's certainly way more helpful scientifically than just saying, I had nothing to do with it and it is all some Supreme Being's plan.

Seek and ye shall find. There are so many books out there that get into philosophy.

A beggar had been sitting on the side of the road for over thirty years. One day a stranger walked by.
"Spare some change?" mumbled the beggar, mechanically holding out his old baseball cap.
" I have nothing to give you", said the stranger. Then he asked: " What's that you are sitting on?"
"Nothing." replied the beggar. "What's the point? There's nothing in there."
" Have a look inside," insisted the stranger. The beggar managed to pry open the lid. With astonishment, disbelief, and elation, he saw that the box was filled with gold.

Those who have not found their true wealth, which is the radiant joy of Being and the deep, unshakable peace that comes with it, are beggars, even if they have great material wealth. They are looking outside for scraps of pleasure or fulfillment, for validation, security, or love, while they have a treasure within that not only includes all those things but is infinitely greater than anything the world can offer.
