I installed my Dad's new 55 today and he is burning the stink off of it now with wood. It will be at least a week or two before he gives coal a try as he wants to use wood for a little bit. He's really enjoying it so far and can tell how much more efficient it will be than his old 1970's smoke dragon wood stove. I like the venting design, reminding me of old cookstoves. Its a plain, simple stove. Just what he wanted.

My question: What is the vent looking thing down near the grates that vents to one of the sides? Whats its purpose? I didnt have a camera. Thank you, Frank

Thanks for the reply Mason. Wish I had brought my camera. It is a metal (I think) vent that looks a lot like an exterior dryer vent and is on one side on inside of the stove on the firebrick. It would high up right in the coal bed I think.

That channels some warmed air from under to above the fire...there should be a pair...other one you didn't see is to left or right of the door inside.
