I found out about round greats I had a good fire going for three days things were going very well then on friday night the house felt cold but the fire looked good ( I have a franco belge new to me this year) I kept turning the dial up and it did not make any difference I finally gave up and turned it down to three and went to bed. when I got up the next morning the fire was out as I dug out the coal I found that the ashes had bridge over the grates and even with using the poker that they give you to stick in the slots in the ash pan it went right under the ashes. So I guess that I learned a lesson on that I guess tha I should poke down threw the coal (from the top) to keep that from happening again.

Back when I had my Mark I, I dumped the fire & jammed the grates solid. After I cleaned it out, I found out why the grates jammed -- there was a BOULDER jammed in between the grates! This was back when I was burning Kimmel's 50 lb bags. Thing had to be 5 lbs minimum. Was the size of both hands put together. Skinny part of it was in the grates & the rest was heaping out above. Haven't seen anything like it since.

I think I dropped the fire a couple more times after that from trying to rush & getting carried away with shaking. Was moving the handle like a Eaton-Fuller 10.

Damnn grate caught a hard piece of nut and wouldnt return to normal position. Of course I had to keep F'n with it and killed it. Well Im hoping to stay in the 3rd match club now.
I did that twice my first year. The Harman grates seem to be more prone to this. I have also loaded my black powder Hawkins rifle, and forgot the powder!
Only did that once though.

Well damn it! I just had a smitty this morning! Darn ROCK stuck in my grates. :taz: Welp on match number 3 now... not bad for a 1st timer burning since end of september I hope. I cant really say anything bad about blaschak or my local supply yard, could have come from either I guess.
