I'm hoping it is the spring mounts......did you 'freak out' when the forum was down and do a few high speed "Baja runs" in the local gravel pit to ease your frustrations? Come on, tell the truth, Richard's feelings won't be hurt!
I would support Smitty's comments and echo that they are all JUNK, however some are less junky than others. Expensive junk. SHOW ME THE MONEY in a damned 50K non diesel pickup!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ....or give me a link to the 'personal lubrication center' for the diesel variety.....How can a gasoline pickup get 8 mpg and a 70K lb 550 hp TT or wheeler get 5 carting a full load? Any qualified mechanic will tell you horror stories about all of them. How are those Mercer electronics doing? Mechanically excellent, electronically JUNK! Any friends running the vans (50K blue tech) Sprinter my a$$, they are like a damned helicopter.....i hr on the road, 10 in the shop.
Smitty told be back in the day, he had wife that caused him similar incidents to what you identify.....perhaps Dr Phil has some advice......just a thought. :)

the awd astro vans and gmc safari vans suddenly will almost stop and lurch and make a "death" noise....

what it turns out to be is tired fluid in the transfer case....yes sir fluid!

they use a propritary fluid.....blue in color.......12 bucks a quart.......

I heard that and said no way.....but the hellashous problem justified a 33 dollar fluid drop and fill

son of a gun.....its perfect

so.......... dunno bout the nissan but if theres a similar issue....

apparently there are wet clutches that need a slippery additive.....no one but GM made it " auto trac II "

These trucks are known to have problems with the Dana rear end. Co-worker went through 2-3 rear ends and finally had a check written out to him from Nissan. Read up on people towing with these and the rear blowing. Somebody taking it for a test ride should be able to tell if it's the trans or the rear. Also those spring shackles are known to go bad. My guess is it is the rear end.

Had the same issue happened while at the dealer so they replaced the entire bed and new liner. This was year one.

At six months all the disk breaks had to be replaced.

So today the dealer looked at it and said I needed to do a new rear axle. 2800$

I did some searching and found this and a class action on 2005 rear axles.
http://www.carcomplaints.com/Nissan/Titan/2005/dr ... lure.shtml
http://www.lemonlawclaims.com/Nissan%20Titan%20di ... defect.htm

I also hear that dana 60 axles are top and would be better than oem for similar cost. Any one can confirm?

As anyone ever joined a class action or is it a racket for lawyers? Spoke with the lawyer thats running it and he says if I can show they knew it was a problem while under warranty I might have a case.

No but you'd think, and the heavy duty 4x4 offroad package. What a joke, never tow, never offroad, just light parkway driving.

What is wrong with the rear axle? If it needs new bearings or something...overhaul it.

A Dana 60 is a very rugged axle. My dad's '78 F250 had one, and he couldn't kill it with over 200,000 miles of "farm duty". Seems like overkill for a light duty truck.

It's a Dana 44 style rear. Not a Dana 60, you would have to fabricate that to fit, if you could find the right gear ratio. There has been a few updates but the problems still exist. The truck has a 5.6l with dohc, it does push a good amount of HP. There is a Nissan Truck forum and all you ever need to know is there.

Currie offers a Dana 60 and a 9" Ford axle modified to be a bolt-in replacement for the factory Titan axle.

I wish I had the 6 months to read titantalk and understand the lingo like I did here. I need something reliable for the winter.

On the site they talk about also doing trutrac vs some detroit differential.

Need to figure out what doing while I get an intro to car mechanics and a good solution.

What would be the cheapest fix to get her ready for sale? What would be the best solution if I keep her?

Really appreciate all the input, im totally clueless when it comes to vehicles.

I have swapped a rear axle in an afternoon, but never on a Titan.

I'd still like to know what went wrong with the stock axle.

I'll ask the guy at work what parts actually go bad. I think it is designed by Dana, maybe not made by them. Also, they were advertised as "4.11" equivalent. Gears in the tranny were just lower than normal, the rear ratio was an oddball like 2.94 and 3.36, think my friend had the higher ones. He gets 14 mpg highway. The Currie rears are nice but by the time you buy the 3rd member for the dana 60 or Ford 9", have it all set up, it would be closer to $4000 installed. If you are going to get rid of the truck, you won't sell it with a bad rear(or get any decent amount at a trade in). May as well have it repaired and drive it for a few more years.

3rd member? :|

The listed price was 1900 and change why do you think 4000?

The oem with install is 2800. I get 14mpg. have the 4x4 offroad package with big tow package.
