While I wouldn't support this legislation the "bird shoots" are a bit ridiculous. They have caged pigeons and then release them as targets. There is nothing sporting about it, it's like fishing at a hatchery with net. I don't know about the present but at least in the past they would have kids run out to kill any birds that were only maimed. I wasn't even aware there was any of these events left, they attracted a lot of protests in the past for one near where I live in a place called Hegins. The exit sign along the highway for the town was always covered in red paint.

richard how sporting is the slaughtering of cattle , hogs , chickens , turkeys , etc. last i checked humans were at the top of the food chain ! this is what happens when people don't agree with something some one else is doing . as long as you are not enfringing on someone elses rights you are free to do what you want . thats what freedom is all about . we need to stop listening to these PAGANS that put animals and the planet above humans .

Yep, I love to eat shot loaded pigeons. It's the same way with some of the game reserves that used to be around, had basically domesticated game animals that would just about walk up to humans. Great American sportsman. If you want to hunt & I agree that it is necessary then hunt.

SB 71 was okay with me until the Maher Amendment. I generally don't like any amendments that are added to any bill and I don't like this one at all. If you want to stop the pigeon (bird) shoots then introduce a bill for that and that alone. This has been going on for a very long time and I personally don't have a problem with it.
Ever see a steer or hog killed? It's not pretty either.

Seems to be the way with every bill these days. Officials pull strings & throw some "incentives" around ... and suddenly you have anti-gun legislation in a bill with a title suggesting that your saving civil war monuments. You never know what's in any damn bill these days. Just take a gander a the 2,000 + page "Obamacare" bill.

Proof positive that this government has run it's course. Out with the greed & moral-less legislation. It's high time for a change, that's for sure.

Or for that matter the Patriot Act, in my opinion that's far worse than a H.C. bill.

Apples and oranges, those are going to be consumed. These birds are just used as live targets.

If someone were walking through the woods with a shotgun and their hunting dog bird hunting for meat they are going to consume I have no problem with that. I might even join them if given the chance.

I've never heard of a shoot where they didn't use the birds they shot. I know of a goose shoot where they donate the feathers to a company that makes pillows, & they prep the rest of the bird for you to take home, or you can donate that as well to the needy. Think that was in MI. But most of the ones I've heard of all use the birds one way or the other. No sense working people up over a sport that's being frowned upon more & more as society becomes more & more spoiled.

They use pigeons at least in the one that was at Hegins. I don't know what they would use them for but perhaps they may use them for something and I'm wrong.

About the only thing they could use a dead pigeon for is fertilizer & if they were using lead shot maybe not even that. It's the little boy's that got their first BB gun & went out & shot birds that are now grown up at least physically. If they want to hunt go out in turkey season with a 22 open sight, my son used to get one quite often like that.

my point is once THE FUN POLICE start telling people what they can do for fun they never stop ! you have the right to do what ever you want as along as you don't infring on someone elses rights . if you are doing something cruel it is between you and your god ! if you don't believe then you have nothing to worry about . if you don't like the cattle , hog , chicken analogy . how about the animals they use to test in labs . just ask smitty about THE FUN POLICE in MA ! you can't have any fun in MA . if they find out you are having fun they will put a stop to it right away .
