How come.....

How come.....

PostBy: Gary in Pennsylvania On: Thu Nov 08, 2007 1:58 pm

Discussion rooms that have new/unread posts have a blue dot next to them.

When I go into a room....say Off Topic.....and I see that there are 4 new threads (or 4 have been posted to since last visit), I will go into the top/lead thread and back out twice to the main index to try and clear that blue dot....but the blue stays trying to tell me that there are STILL unread threads. Do I have to go into EVERY new/updated thread to clear the blue dot outside of a room? Or 'Mark all threads read' ????

The blue dot will stay until you read every thread under the main category. Of course you can always use the mark all threads read button. :)

It's almost the same as the old sytem except you never lose unread icons unless you do as suggested and use the "mark forums read". You can also use the "mark topics read" in individual forums which will just mark all the threads read in that forum. There's benefits and drawbacks to this system. The benefit is you will never lose unread threads, for example if you're reading the forum and get interupted and come back in a half an hour they are still marked. In the old sytem they would have been all marked read.

You can also just use the link for "view new posts" instead of looking through individual forums. This is by far the easiest way to navigate the forums.

In my opinion the new blue dot functionality is better. I like that it doesn't loose what you haven't yet read. Thanks Richard.

I agree yanche, some people get used to coming to forums and once they leave and don't come back or close their browser out it will automaticaaly mark them read which is convenient for some. I'll look into modifying it so there is selection if your profile for for how they are handled. For example unread topics that aren't read for after x amount of time become unmarked. Probably something avaialble or i can do it myself. I'll put it on the to do list.
