Crane 404 Stoker Stove

Might want to get this moved to the 'stoker' section...
Looks like a factory deal with the photo of the MFG decal...
Never saw a stoker Crane 404 before...
One of the reps I bump into worked for Crane...
I will ask when I see him if he knows what stoker was used...

jerryf, I apologize, I reported the stove no longer listed. It's in uncle henry's maine. Acton maine to be specific for 150.00 bucks. Looks Identical. phone # is 207-432-8780. I hope the have some insight for you. The only clue I can see is the cord peeking from behind, I would say it has a blower and maybe more.

Crane made very few stoker stoves...
The 404 cooker is a hand fed non stoker stove...
This hand fired 404 was the base for the stoker version...
The dealers were 'strong-armed' with the stokers...
From the sound of it the stokers did not sit well with most dealers...
Most did not promote or sell the unit...
The stokers were a very low volume item...
The rep could not tell me what stoker unit Crane used...
But it looks like the triburner...
Get the bolt pattern and some better pics of the stoker unit and post it over in the stoker forum to get a positive ID...

We made only a few of these prototype stoker units and though my dad was way ahead of the curve in this field (since now you see self feeding pellet stoves everywhere) Its a stove that i never liked because it could never maintain the efficiency and life and quality that Crane Stoves were legendary for. I'm not sure its wise to use these prototype stoves at this point as stokers to heat your home.

the stoker unit was designed and manufactured by my father (not any outside company would use that thickness and heaft stainless steel to build anything). i can remember it took me days to build those damb things (i could build 10 stoves in the time it took me to build one of those damb stoker/feeder grates!

sorry to bump this thread after so long but wanted to let folks know what this unit is before i lock the thread.

This is indeed a Crane model 404 Stoker, these were a few test series units provided to a few of the largest dealers to play around with to their hearts content. Your from PA so my guess is that it came from a dealer called Dussinger Stoves.
These were the precursor to the Crane Stokers (which were much larger with full size hoppers, better protected electronics, much thinner gauge steel, decorative tile exterior). Im not sure I would put alot of time into this "beta" unit BUT a super easy and cheap option would be to remove the grate and weld some plate steel inside to make airtight and then you have one hell of a heavy duty woodstove that would last ages.
