It was 15 on my thermo this morning when I got home from work. I have about 200 lbs of coal in my bin. Think I'll make it?

Figuring my normal coal use this time of year (about 15-20 lbs per day) I would figure that as a week to 10 day supply left.

Had 10F this a.m. with a high of only 20 F and I have throttled up the Jotul to keep the house a nice 74 F. I am up to forty pounds a day right now and hopefully I have enough coal to last the next twenty days. Hopefully by then the weather will warm up enough to shut down the stove. At my current burn rate I have enough coal for thirty days provided we don't get a real cold snap. Not looking forward to the bug season of summer.

Wind Advisory and Snow!
The water keeps it raw on the Cape and the strong winds do not help.
The snow was a nice touch just a dusting but it came in hard!

You guys got it baaaad down there! -- cold ocean wind, snow, traffic, overpriced housing, & Ted Kennedy!

I've been burning sludge since last week -- watching the float gauge drop much faster than when the stove was running ! :|

HA! YEAH! Same for us! I thought I was dreaming! So we go right from an elongated, extended Spring, into the heart of summer!
So EVERYONE in NJ will be shutting down over next couple of days.

Finally a couple of days in the 80's. I'm turning off the boiler Friday, adding the DHW coil over the weekend, giving the boiler a good cleaning, relighting by Monday and putting the electric water heater on the junk pile. Will probably have to shut the boiler down again for service right before the heating season. Nothing like burning coal all year. :)

Bill, if your electric HWH is in good shape, wouldn't you want to keep in in place and use it as a backup for when your boiler needs maintenance? Just a thought. :D
