The Cold Weather Is Here!

Yeah it's got insulation .... right up against the sheathing, sandwiched between luan paneling .... :no1:

Oh ... then there's the room my wife took upon herself to gut ... when I specifically told her I want NO PART of working on this place. Maybe when I actually OWN it I'll do it .... but while I'm "renting" from the bank, that seems idiotic to me. If I don't own it outright, why spend my hard earned money fixing it up? I could never figure out why people who rented would remodel their apartments. Still can't grasp that one. I've got a different way of looking at things, I guess. So the room sits gutted.

At least my wife's lack of cleaning & organizational skills have to have added an R10 to the floor, at least ...

I understand where you're coming from, but you must be doing some amount of upkeep? What good is it to own a house free and clear if it has to be torn down the same day it is paid for? Obviously I am exaggerating, just trying to make a point. Also, even if you "own it free and clear" it is still easy to lose if you can't pay the taxes.

This is my real motive in all this. I figure in 10 years the taxes will be unaffordable here. I sure as hell ain't gonna set this place up for someone else to have for nothing, after all I sacrificed just to get here. I'm taking this place with me come hell or high water .... unless I end up in a situation where I can sell it. ;)

The high water part is closer than I think ....

Still at 25*...
lookin' at 15* overnight...
Windy too...
Knocked over the cap on the Metalbestos Chimney...
It had rotted the supports...
Too slick with the snow to go up tonight...
The pipe is clear enough to vent for now...

16 here, gonna see 9 before this night is out. Stove is trucking along at around 500 and the house is nearing 74*. Stack is 230* stove outlet is 350* and the draft is hovering between .04" and .05" with the MPD closed. Just loaded up for the night. Life is good when burning coal.

EDIT

Ooh, they changed the forecast. The low will be 5° with a wind chill that will make it, -3°. YAY!

Just went & checked the stove with the infared - sides are 600°, top is 480°-ish, glass is 500°. This baby is crankin! 8-)

I'd turn it up higher, but I don't feel like reloading at 3am. I reloaded at 10 am this morning. Doubtful I'll get 24hrs out of this batch.

Going down into the single digits tonight, first three dog nite of the season. At least the snow has stopped, got about nine inches probably would have been more if the wind wasn't so strong, front side of the garage is 8 & the back is around 20 ya gotta love that lake effect.
