Merry Christmas to All
I was born in Coaldale, Pa. home of the original LC&N Coal Company. The Company had 8 mines and at least 4 breakers. My dad worked there as a miner for 33 years. As we kids walked to school you could hear the grinding wheels of the coal breakers. Also, the "toot toot" of the lokies pulling a trip of cars to the breakers. Near our company house the large Steam engines made ready 100 gondolas to take their coal to the "City". To all especially Richard S, F. Fred, Fastcat, Grizzly, Oliver & JC Have a Very Merry Warm Christmas & a Happy Healthy New Year.
Following is a song we sang during the Holidays penned by our school band leader, Mr. Matrician, "Black Christmas"
I'm dreaming of a black Christmas
Just like the ones I used to know
Where the coal cars glisten
and children listen
To hear Colliery whistles blow
I'm dreaming of a black Christmas
With every coal car that I fill
May your days be merry and bright
And may all your coal be Anthracite.

Merry Christmas & a Happy New Year to all as well. Thanks for that bit of early coal history Den, I've been reading a little book my wife's aunt sent us that her husband wrote before he died & it has a lot of early coal mine history as well. & people think we have it rough now.
