Moved into a house that had a Jotul 507b that came with it. Being unfamiliar with coal, coal stoves....etc, I was at a loss, trying to figure it out. I spent way too many hours on websites and youtube. All that I accomplished was making a mess, pissing myself off and staying cold. I found this site, joined and saw that "the snowman" had the exact same stove. I sent him a message and bam, received a detailed and simple procedure that worked right away. So thank you snowman and thanks to those who put up this website so knuckle headed newbies like me could learn something!

I had a 507 for a short time. Just as I sold it I learned something: The ash pan does not live IN the stove! It is used as a scoop to load the coal into the stove, then as a shovel to empty the ashes. That's why it has only three sides. Maybe you knew that already. Anyway, enjoy the stove!
