So our coal is off to China. Along with all the jobs. Good for China.
Who knows, maybe some day we'll be calling New England.....New China!
And in the dead of winter up here in New China, when we're all shivering in the cold.... we can burn our furniture for heat.

I would rather burn the politicians, lawyers, bankers, wall street boys, and many many others for heat :D , probably wouldnt get many BTU's though because of the piss poor quality  .

We'd be better off keeping them alive and just collecting all the hot air.

So let me review. About WW1 we were close to producing 100MM tons per year and there was still plenty for all. Then followed about 100 yr very painful contraction down to well under 2 MM tons. Now Lehigh has sold 30,000 tons a month to China for say three years, say up to 1 million tons left the system. So now we have to produce three million tons. In addition new players (like me) are coming to the party perhaps increasing demand to 4MM tons (tops) - most people that buy coal stoves will be too lazy to follow through. Now there is going to be expansion pains but increasing employment too. Yes I know there are regulation issues etc. but these will be overcome. So in the next few years we will have to be a little more organized and perhaps pay a little more but in inflationary terms I doubt it. I use about 10 tons of Jeddo per year. If I wanted 2000tons delivered late June who thinks I could not get it if I phoned now and put down a serious deposit? Sorry, guys we were getting sloppy and now we need to plan a little - suck it up. I have a little more rice than I need and I gave two pickup trucks full to Steve (a Chiropractor - you know who you are) in Middletown which he is replacing next summer. I am no charity sucker, if I did not think I would get it back I would not be so generous.

To those on a tiny budget I feel sorry but if we got our act together as a society those needs but we easily taken care of too - go Ron.

I think coalnewbie has it accurate - at least I hope so :D I just started using coal this season and I hope to enjoy it for many more. This season I'm getting thru by getting 1500 pounds or so as I need it, cuz I don't have the funds to put 5 tons in the basement. BUT by August this summer I am going to have my whole winter supply or more in the basement. Next year 2012-2013 season my whole heating bill will be paid for in advance and no struggling thru the winter to pay heating bills when I make less money.. Thats the plan anyways

Maybe we should start a thread. How many tons do you burn in a season.
Then total it up. Average total tons...average total cost. Or has it been done already?

........ BINGO

I started this five years ago and I was broke. I estimated my savings every year and reinvested in stoves/coal. My payback seems to be one to two years. I am too dumb to work out another better investment for my money - can't be beat. Now I went down to Berwick with cash (got to put a little away every week otherwise it's too hard to save) and grabbed two AnthraKings as I consider these to be the best of the best. Psst, visit in July when it's 95F, surprise there is no line, I shouted out and the place echoed. Planning, planning. One installed - fabulous, the other is just sitting there. I know I will need the power but not yet. Cost - NOTHING as I have been saving up from HO saved. Perhaps hydronics is in my future from money saved - we will see. NO bank loans, I am done..

I just picked up two 2400# skids of Blashak nut coal from my dealer, just because I could. While he doesn't have any more nut coal on the lot, he can get it fairly easy from Blashak. Just like anything else, the wise coal burner plans for NEXT year's winter in advance. Lay in your supply of coal this spring/summer for next year's winter and you'll have no problems. Wait until the last minute and you might find yourself in a "shortage" situation, because the dead of winter just isn't a good time to start worrying about your coal supply.

Wow, blaschak gets all the way out there. Blaschak seems like a great company because I can pick it up 2 hours away from me and I just bought a 2400lbs pallet 2 weeks ago from a dealer north of me. As a company they must really be on top of it. Not only is it great coal, it seems they really make sure they have enough for the rest of the US. Either that or the dealers who supply there coal are really on top of it as well.

Well, being "all the way out there" is why I pick up my coal either in the off season (spring-summer) or as I can, in order to preclude "shortages" whether real or imagined. I currently have a 3 year supply of nut coal on hand (9-2400# skids). My goal is to have a 5 year supply that I augment with wood. :D

Sorry Dennis! I sometimes forget that MI is really not that far from PA... It's far from me though! I need to remind myself of US geography from time to time. And in reality, nothing is really that "far away" considering I've made a few trips across the country driving and it wasn't so bad, nor did it take that long. Happy burning :)
