Been a while since the A-A landed here, but some progress is now being made. :D

Here is the original post of it's arrival: 1959 Axeman-Anderson Moved to Ohio Recently.

Start of piping pictures:
DSCF2025.JPG

The two 1-1/4 unions on the right are stopped short of the hopper on the stoker furnace...
furnace needs to comes out for boiler to connect to that chimney.

I'm building provisions for even more expansion, should I ever need it...capped valves on the left side.

DSCF2027.JPG

Lots of black pipe...copper is $$$$

.JPG | 70.3KB | DSCF2027.JPG
One zone here will be for water over air H/X in forced air furnace.
Other 2 zones shown are for future plans.

Another 4th zone...an Indirect for DHW will be piped in nearer to the boilers supply and return...so only 2 zones for now and 2 for future. ;)

I chose the Gundfos 3 speed pump and the Gundfos ALPHA pump. The ALPHA pump has amazing features... we'll see how that all works out as it operates after the completion.

Over all, what do you all think so far?

Boiler is on a wheeled cart nearby w/ just some dry fit-up pieces on it. I have to get up the nerve to pull the plug on my DIY stoker furnace, as it will be in the way. Just trying to get as much work done as I can before it is inevitable to yank it out of there.

Good thing I had a second fan...I ended up needed it!

.JPG | 121.4KB | DSCF2012.JPG
DSCF2014.JPG

The one that was in it has protruding "nubs" instead of bolts & nuts.
The thin metal around the "nubs" has "ovaled"...causing it to wobbled out of balance.

Luckily the "spare" has bolts & nuts and it spins true.

Surprise...somebody done a ring repair...and some metal loss around Tankless Coil area.
No worries...I'll just have it plated over. :)
DSCF2021.JPG

After the coil and fan were removed some "surprises" were revealed.

See how easy those studs came out...zing!!!
DSCF2025.JPG

Wacked dem studs off...they're outa-here!!!

More yet:

Pickup the H/X from the tin shop today, I had him "case" it so it will slide right in my duct work like a drawer. Had him make an end cover too, to close the opening of the drawer.
When this gets plumbed in I'll have 2 shut-offs and 2 unions to allow it to be removed for unhindered A/C during the summer months. :)

Yep, that ring repair looks familiar as does the condition of the boiler's gasket surface around the coil port.

Once you have it all 'fluffed up' it will only take a minimum of attention to keep it running at it's best.

Well, the ole A-A 130M is off the cart and on the floor. :D

H/X is installed in plenum and plumbed back into headers on wall. :)

Indirect water heater is 50% plumbed, still need more work to get to the point where I can have a HW outage to do the cut over. I want to have the HW outage just prior to boiler's first light up...in order to put a good load on boiler to establish a good hot fire bed in the fire-pot.

Boiler exhaust flue and pipe ties to headers are next...then control wiring.

It's a one man show here.

More to come...stay tuned! :alone:

Thanks for the heads up. :)

I have seen that. I wondered if this one was one of those problematic ones. So I did some testing of the Smart Controller. I had a temporary power feed connected to it for several days of continuous call for heat and it performed as expected. :D

If it should sometime later act up I have a plan to retrofit it w/ a $50.00 off the shelf controller that will work w/ the existing auqastat/temp. switch. Big $$$$ for Amtrol's replacement. Not for me. :!:

Where does the smart control get inserted into on the amtrol ? My vaughn has an immersion well for an aquastat bulb, their control is a 4 wire type aquastat with an immersion bulb. I figure if it dies, I'll replace with a simple honeywell 2 wire aquastat that has an adjustable differential. The one nice thing on the factory control is a light that's on steady, and blinks when their is a call for heat (but I can live without). And when you reinstall the combustion fan, it should be close to the internal ring to get the most vacuum without rubbing.

My indirect is a Bradford White, and it has a 4006B Honeywell installed in a standard well. It works excellent and is very easy to adjust.
