You got it bro. Last season was my first with the Vigilant and I did not have the time to finish my hearth rebuild and close off the fireplace damper so I put it in front of the fireplace and blocked the opening with cement board and cut a hole for the exhaust pipe.Rich W. wrote:I'd like to hear more about the details of your new installation if you care to share. Mine is in a fireplace too, so I'm interested in learning from others how I might improve mine. Thanks.
Now with the fireplace damper sealed and the stove sitting closer the first thing I noticed is the fireplace is 85* per infra thermo gun. It is in the center of the home, so that is a bonus. Last night I played with the temp of the stove and was able to get it down to 198* and 124* on the exhaust pipe with no visible sign of life I let it sit for an hour or so and then I was worried it would go out so I put it direct draft and cracked the ash pan and in 20 minutes the glow started ...this stove sure is fun!
