Magee and Weir were two seperate companies. They along with Quaker, Hearld, Crawford, Phillips & Clark, Fuller & Warren along with a bunch of smaller foundries, were in vicious competetion with each other. Your Glenwood Modern Oak should not have a Magee door on there. I would like to see some pictures of the stove. I'm not surprised that the door fits, but; I wonder how well it fits.

I am pretty sure that the Magee Furnace Company was located in Chelsea, MA back in the day. Perhaps this might help some?

Yep allot of these East coast Stoves were made in Taunton, Mass, Boston area, Portland, Me. and on the Hudson in the Albany, Ny area too. They all had very similar models to each others popular lines. I have no doubt that the door is the odd man out and you have a Glenwood Modern Oak 114 sans door. It's a great midsized stove with a 12" firepot. They came with an indirect back pipe about 90% of the time and that made them quite a bit more efficient. This is a popular stove so there 's no doubt that the load door would be easy enoug to find if it bothers you. If not and the Magee door fits well, use it and enjoy!

This does not have the indirect back pipe. That being said, how many rooms could I expect to heat with it?
Working on getting a few pics posted.

It depends on your layout and the location of the stove. probably 1500sq feet though would be within it's capacity. It's considered a mid sized cyl stove and was quite popular for home heating in it's day.

At one point in time Weir did make stoves for Magee. I believe this was done in the late teens and or early 1920s

I believe Magee started out sourcing their coal stove once they started to transition to electric ranges but did not want to lose their market share.

The picture below is a Magee Royal Oak. This stove and is all Glenwood but the loading door and top cap and finial.

Great post Bill! I never knew that Weir built stoves for Magee and I'll bet that is exactly what PTJ has. It looks just like a Modern Oak 114.

Wow!! I didn"t know that. Thanks for the photo and the information. I have learned something new today. It is a Glenwood Modern Oak all over, that plainly can be seen. Just the name on the door and the finial are different. Maybe our new friend here has stumbled on one of these.

The one youtube is selling for $6500 --> It's claim to fame is that it was used in a Saturday Night Live skit in the late seventies. lol

The finial is the same as the one on my Magee Crown.

I don't think this one will heat any better than one selling for $1,500. Just me though.
