New Long Island Stove Dealer
If you are looking for an alternative to Rella, in the past we've bought a coal stove from Sleepy Hollow in Brentwood. Their site does not mention coal but they are a Harmen dealer. They do our cleaning and maintenance as well and have been pleased with their work.

Stopped by Sleepy Hollow today and they will still do coal stoves. Looking at the Bethlehem site and noticed they are a dealer for Keystoker as well. So there's really no excuse to shop at Rella unless you like the abuse.

Tried to get coal this weekend from Bethlehem... . They don't seem much better than Rella. Not sure if it has anything to do with new ownership, or their operation moving from Brightwaters to Central Islip? I called Wednesday to ask about bagged coal. They told me there was no one at the yard, but asked how much I needed and they would be sure to have it bagged and ready for pickup Thursday. I assumed their coal was bagged and ready to go, along with someone working at the yard? I told them I would be down Thursday to pick up the coal but they told me the coal wasn't ready. The gentleman that bags the coal was out on delivery and wouldn't get around to bagging it until late Thursday...just 1 guy working the yard? So I drove to Bethlehem Coal Friday but could not find the place! Drove down Suffolk Avenue 3 times, but had no luck. GPS showed a railroad station . I was disgusted by this point. I may just bite the bullet and purchase from Rella. Happy...no! But they are extremely close to my house. After getting my panties in a bunch and kicking the cat I decided to research coal dealers. Seems Rella and Bethlehem are the only 2 residential coal dealers in Nassau and Suffolk. So much for choice around these parts. I may just stick to burning wood

Yep, Sleepy Hollow is ok. When I needed service they admitted they are better at pellet products but could service my coal stove......but they don't sell coal!
Tcalo, call Sleepy Hollow and ask for a recomendation on coal dealers. She gave me three others aside from rella and Bethlehem, however, I never got to call them and I misplaced the numbers. Post here if you do call and something works out please.
Yea, Bethlahem requires patience but I'll never give Rella a penny more of my money, ever.
Anyone want to go in on a 20 yard trailer out of PA? Only requires a place to drop the 20 yards and a way to distribute. Ya.....who's got a front end loaded And a dump truck?

Bethlehem (the NEW owner, and OLD) coal are both reputable fellows. Nice to see the NEW owner, a smart yound man, getting a website up.
As far as I understand, him and rella are the only ones still selling/delivering coal on Long Island...

Hold on here, before you rank Rella dead last you must consider chimneysweepenergy (Middletown, NY) for that position. They really are the pits in all depts but the locals are brain dead and they do well. The new blue 5 series Beamer rankles me even more. We desperately need some competition here too. Rip off artists Jones plumbing started the Fireplace Store in Goshen NY and although they would be dead last against any competition (you guys in LI would not stand a chance) they only rip off people in wood/pellet stoves for now. So I guess they are not contestants at the moment. I could drive 20 miles to NJ to Wilsoncoal (Sparta) but as they wanted nearly $400 a ton for coal, I am not optimistic there either. I need to drive to PA to find the great players - it's not fair.Wait a minute, I need to be fair here, Cornwall coal (Cornwall on Hudson) is good at what they do.

Looking to purchase this winters coal supply soon. Just fishing around to see who everyone on the island deals with. Not many choices around these parts. Was contemplating driving to the breakers in PA and picking up the coal myself...probably would be cheaper and less of a hassle to get it delivered!
If you're really committed to coal and have the room I would bit the bullet and get a truck load delivered from PA. I bought 22 tons of bagged coal and couldn't be happier. http://www.baggedcoal.comtcalo wrote:Looking to purchase this winters coal supply soon. These guys were reliable and took care of me. I had to send them a check in advance which was a little scary but it all worked out.

Kenny,
I'm fairly close to you, I live in Medford. This is my 2nd year playing around with coal. Just got my delivery for the season from Rella. Been dealing with them due to limited resources here on the island. Seems coal prices here on Long Island are quite expensive compared to what others on the forum are paying. I planned on taking a trip out to the breakers to pick up a load, wasn't worth it. Cheaper and less of a headache to just have it delivered. Do you find a big difference in burn quality and price between Rella's Blaschak coal and UAE coal? Where did you score UAE coal from? Wish you posted this before I took delivery, would've consider splitting a load with you! Maybe next season

Hi there
We just had our deliveries from Chris at Bethlehem. $285/ton plus delivery. Paula who answers the phone communicated well during the wait time and delivery day.
The three of us on the block talked a few times about going in on a bulk delivery from PA. Since none of us have heavy construction equipment to move bulk material or the space to dump 20+ yards, we opted to deal locally. Bagged would have worked out but after speaking with baggedcoal.com the price for bagged plus Long Island delivery still didn't work out.
I'd love to open a yard on route 112, just north of the LIE. . (Locals understand)
