Hello all..

Well, being winter, I was attempting to change the direction on a ceiling fan so that it would blow upward and re-circulate the hot air near the ceiling...come to find out, the switch/button on the fan is not changing the fan direction anymore, so its stuck operating pushing down..I'm told that what I need is a common reversing switch..I checked out Home Depot to no avail, as they gave me that 'glazed over' look that I see there a lot!.. ;)

Does anyone have experience with this and perhaps know of an on-line source to purchase this switch?

Thanks for the help!

question--I know you've got a switch problem, but why bother, heat rises on it's own--I've played with my 52"/5 blade fan & found that down on low distributes the heat real well???? I would suspect that your only solution on the switch, would be a hell of a cob job--remember, everything is throw away nowadays--GOOGLE the fan brand & see what you come up with.

Hi FREESTOWN...Why bother?..well..the fan is almost above sofa/loveseat...so to use it on low blowing down produces kind of a 'wind chill effect'....(low on some fans seems to be 'lower' than others if you will...) where as with out the direct down breeze, the heat from the stove blower convection fan is felt...also, when the fan is blowing up, it moves the air down the walls of the perimeter of the room...kind of having the effect of negating any chill comming off of the windows...

Gotcha, my fan is as close to the stove as I could safely get it. Good luck finding that switch you're looking for. Wish I could be more help. :(

Stoker, years ago I had the same problem & before buying a new one I tried spraying some contact cleaner on the soldered points & cleaned them up a bit, it worked for be just make sure not to spray too much & keep a rag for any overspray, most of the cleaners evaporate real quick. If you need a switch I would try a smaller hardware store, the big box stores seem to only want to sell replacements, not parts.

Is there any electrical or lighting stores in your area? A store that specializes in lighting would probably be your best bet. A new switch shouldn't cost you much more than a fiver with tax.

Yeah...there are plenty of elictrical supply stores..but I'm out in the woods and trying to avoid killing a bunch of time tracking one down...being a bit lazy I guess.. :) ..its so nice and easy to order something on line and have it appear....
