How does Jeddo Coal compare to UAE Harmony?

By whatever measure of quality and satisfaction you choose to apply, how does Jeddo anthracite stack up against UAE Harmony?

Pretty favorably. I have burned Harmony 3 years before this year. I wasn't able to break away and take the trip down this year. When the opportunity to go came up, there wasn't enough time. So to cut a couple hours off, I went to Jeddo. The load out was a bit of a hassle, but if I was set up a little different, I would go back. I had the opprtunity to talk with forum member Mike. Nice guy by the way We talked about the Jeddo quality and his statememt was "You will find that Jeddo is very comparable to Harmony. Just a touch more ash." He was right. Coal burns hot, not much ash, the ash is white, and it is a little cheaper than UAE. I'm still like taking the day off and going to Harmony. I've been there enough that the guys are familiar and they always got a little a$$ busting going on. You won't be let down by a load of Jeddo. It's not the absolute best, but it's pretty darn good

3 TT loads of Jeddo later, I am still going back for more this year. That is another 22_ tons. Nothing wrong with this coal.

It is refreshing to get a "review" from someone that has burned coal from both sources in question. Thanks Scott.

Are you shopping for next seasons coal?

Got a 700 on the block. Gonna get a TT with the result. Splitting a load with a friend he wants to try Harmony. How about you? Going the bulk coal route?

Yes, but still mainly dreaming of a T/L to drive down cost and lock in supply. I'm still sitting on roughly 9,000 lbs. of remaining coal supply on hand though, and the way this winter is going I may have about 4,000 to 4,500 lbs. left over at the end of the heating season. That plus a full T/L would set me up for nearly the next 5 years.

From comments I've seen here and there, Jeddo coal seems to be more readily available overall than Harmony on any given day, as well as perhaps a bit less expensive. Good to hear that it performs well.

I run a hand fed stove so I'm aware of the shaking down effort. I've burned from a dealer in Saylorsburg that sells Jedo. When I bought my 1.75 tons of nut I asked if it is Jedo and he confirmed that indeed it is. I can't say it's as good as UAE simply from the % ash and the type of ash that I experienced from my load. From easy burns, Jedo % ash is greater than UAE and noticeably so, nearly 50% more and shakes down easy enough. Still, w/Jedo 2 shake downs/day and UAE only one. Keep in mind that I run my stove at max temperatures during the majority of the season and did so burning Jedo. When the fire burns hot, as I run my stove, Jedo ash was very hard to shake with the Vigilant II's grates. It fused to the same shape as the unburned piece and was prone clinker up. Running the same way with UAE nut (~5 ton burned so far), the ash yields less volume but mostly all of it turns to a sand texture. As stated earlier, I've only run through 1.75 tons of Jedo. There's still a little in the bottom of my bin that I see in the ash as white chunks that contrast with the reddish sand ash from the UAE. Just my experience from what I got thru a dealer. I couldn't compare heat output at this point. I'd definitely burn Jedo in the spring and fall but wouldn't look forward to it in the coldest season simply from a shaking aspect. My choice is UAE based on my limited comparison.

Interesting. I think the BTU for both coals is similar but reading all of this I wonder if Jeddo seems to be a little softer and does not submit to multiple handling as well. The first load seemed to have more fines but my type of stove (LL Pocono) handles it well, however, at coaltrol MAX=40 there was not enough air through the very deep bed. This resulted in me using a MAX burn of only 33. This is consistent with too many fines and has prompted me to wonder if a little buck mixed in during the cold times might be an improvement. Have not tried other coal as being in NY I take what I can get.

I bought 5 tons at the mine Dec 1st, it's the best coal I have ever had. Very hard and glass like and free of fines.
